Thanks franklally, I really like the look of Kellingheath, but I've seen a bad review on trip advisor saying that it was really noisy at night and that the food was rubbish in the restaurant. I know I shouldn't let one reveiw put me off, but does this sound right to you? It looks like such a lovely place, I'm thinking of going at the beg of July before the kids break up, so hopefully it wouldn't be too busy!

All I can say is we really liked it and thought the pizza restaurant was really good. We didn't find it noisy at all (and we have been in July & October in the school holidays) - but then we were in a lodge and not camping. It seems really well managed and incredibly spacious - and if it was outside the school holidays and it wasn't fully booked I'm sure reception would relocate you to a quieter area if you were not happy.

  • Thanks for that Shelldean - the reviews here are a lot more positive. I showed it to my partner and he thinks it looks great.

Before last summer I would have recommended Deepdale - it was my favourite place in the world (have camped several times and stayed in the gorgeous hostel loads of times too) - but it is now run by different people and I felt that the atmosphere wasn't the same. We went peak weeks in the school holidays, lots of familes and the new people patrolled at 10pm and were a bit over zealous with the noise policy. We were 'told off' for being too noisy playing charades as did the people opposite us who were playing Ludo! I have camped in many places and I would say that we were by no means noisy - this was talking level not shouting and hollering.

I also found them to be rather unhelpfull and surley when asked anything in the onsite information centre. I am rather disappointed as I loved the place and have yet to find anywhere else that I like as much as I sed to like Deepdale.

Having said all of that - it may have just been a bad week!

There are two great pubs nearby - The White Horse (which is a hotel) good bar snacks, nice feel to the place & The Jolly Sailors (my favourite), a bit more casual and they now do lovely pizza to take away if you want something to take back to the campsite. Deepdale cafe is next door to the site and does amazing food and the best breakfast ever!

There are a couple of funky shops in the parade of shops next to the site including FatFace. It's quite a cool place to be and atracts lots of Londoners who have second homes there.

Plenty to do nearby and a good bus service (Coast Hopper) to get you around if you don't want to drive. You can also arrange bicycle hire if you're into cycling.

The place is lovely - I don't know if my feelings about the new people are shared by others that have stayed there before and after the change, it could just be me!

we're going to Kelling Heath for the first time in June. :) my friend has been there before though and they really enjoyed it. I think its got the right balance for us - away from it all but with good facilities. e've only been camping once before so dont want it too basic!! plus we have two little ones (3 1/2 and 6 months) x
