Sold phone & buyer says it is locked.

This week I have sold a Nokia phone, today the buyer has contacted me to say that is does not work "I put my sim card into the
phone and it would not work "no sim" message appears".
I have used this phone for the last 6 months with a number of different sim cards from Virgin, BT & Orange with no problem's.
I advertised this phone as unlocked and now the buyer is saying that he will have to pay to have it unlocked, I am not very into mobile phones but if I have been using different sim cards from different companies then I was correct to list the phone as unlocked.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Either they are trying it on or there is a fault with the sim or the phone, most Nokias are relatively easy to unlock and there are a lot of websites you can do this for free, do a search with the model number of the phone for free unlock codes, there is a section somewhere on this forum as well, might be the tech board.
When you sold the phone did you take a note of the IMEI number on phone?, some scammers will try and swap a faulty phone for a working one by claiming the one they bought is faulty and returning the duff one, as a rule of thumb you should always take a note of the IMEI and ideally place a mark on the phone with a UV pen and detailed photographs of any unique little dings or scratches etc to make sure the phone you get back is the one you sent.0 -
Thanks DPG I did take photos of the phone, I will email him this norning and see how I get on.0

If the seller suggests you give them a partial refund to pay to unlock the phone then you will know that they are at it, you can shut them up quickly if you have an unlock code to give them or can direct them to where they can get one for free, if they aren't willing to accept that then ask them to return the phone, if the IMEI and photographs don't match refuse to pay out and contact PayPal and make your case to them that they are a scammer, have a look at their feedback and see if any comments stick out that might indicate they have bene up to no good in the past.0

What networks sim card is he attempting to use?0

The error "No Sim" referes to the phonce not recognising the sim card, nothing to do with it being unlocked or not.
either his sim card is faulty, phone is faulty or he is using the wrong kind of SIM (If he is using a 3G SIM in a phone that doesnt support 3G - no so much an issue any more but was a problem with certain phones a few years ago)0 -
I have just checked and he has 10 feedback 100%.
Cb I do not know what sim card he is attempting to use.
It is a Nokia 6111, can you advise where I would get a code as he is saying thet he will have to pay for one, but he doesn't need one as I have used all different sim cards so am confused.

There's lots of sites you can unlock nokia from just google it. If he is trying to use something like a 3 mobile sim I believe these don't work in the majority of phones (as 3 have done something to them). So before you give him the code it may be worth finding what sim he's trying to usedebidoodle wrote: »I have just checked and he has 10 feedback 100%.

Thanks cb I will contact him & see what he has to say.0

Also, ask for a photo of the message saying it's locked. Personally I think it's either faulty sim or a 3 sim.0
