Talk talk : do I really have to be in for the engineer?

Morning all,
Ive moved to another property and changed my phone number but kept my talk talk phone and broadband going. Talk talk insist that I have to be in the property incase the engineer wants to look at something (tomorrow).
Now then, I have my phone line up and running already. What else is there for the engineer to do? Do I really still have to take a day of work and lose pay?
My official change over date is tomorrow.
How soon after m y phone line will my broadband be up and running?
Any help as always appreciated.
Ps. Ive received no welcome pack this time although I received one from talk talk at my previous address.
Oh and I nearly forgot. They've extended my contract another 18 months, I was unaware they did this for change of address. Did you guys know this?

It's your choice if you want to risk it - if the engineer is coming out to fiddle with the cables in the street cabinet to turn your broadband on.. and then if he finds he needs to do something on your master socket and you're not in - then he won't be able to connect your broadband and he'll go to his next job and you'll have to wait another x weeks for another engineer to come out.
Can you get a neighbour or friend to let them in?0 -
Hi,
If Ive got my phone line up and running why do they need to come into the house to sort the broadband?:o0
