Phone calls from UDS: Eon Debt Collectors??

Firstly, I apologise if this is in the wrong forum. But I read that Eon representatives will read comments in here so that's kind of what I'm aiming for.
Okay, first: I am not nor have I ever been an Eon customer.
I once expressed interest in Eon online somewhere and left my phone number saying it was okay to be called. A couple of months later (after I'd forgotten about this) I got a phone call from someone from Eon explaining how their gas prices are lower than British Gas. I explained I'd changed my mind and was no longer interested. The person seemed to accept that and I didn't hear from them again (quite pleased about that - I expected to be pestered.)
But recently, I've been receiving phone calls 2 or 3 times a day from a company called UDS. It's always a recorded message, always the same one and it's not even for me. Or anyone who lives here. Or anyone from the family who lived here before we did. They're getting really irritating.
The message states:
"Hello, this is Jacqueline Hale calling from UDS with an important message for Mrs D. Stanford. Please call me back on 01269504023 and quote 01135712200"
I googled the number and company and came up with UDS being Eon's debt collection agency.
So I ask Eon representatives: are UDS part of the Eon group? If so, why was my number passed over to them and why are they calling for someone who doesn't live here and how can I stop the calls?
Thank you for any help.

why not call them up and tell them that they have the wrong number? It's most likely an incorrect number got recorded somewhere. If you tell them that it's wrong then they should go away fairly quickly. If you do nothing they assume the number is correct and Mrs D Stanford is ignoring them so they will keep calling.Indecision is the key to flexibility0

Either way, I would suggest calling Eon and seeing what's going on. If it's an error that their end, they'll be able to stop the debt collection company from pestering you. If it's not an error, then they'll explain what the heck is happening so the issue(s) can be resolved quickly.0

I know the logical thing would be the phone the number on the message. But I was hoping for a solution which wouldn't cost me money as we struggle to pay bills as it is. I know it's only a normal number (as opposed to an 08 something one) but if I end up on hold for a while, it'll still cost.0

Hi Kaleidoscope27,
UDS do collect debs on behalf of E.ON.
It does sound like you have been contacted in error.
I would also agree that calling would be the best thing to do and it will sort the matter quickly.
Or, as I am here, you can use the email address on the left under my name and I will be more then happy to see if I can sort this for you.

I doubt that there is any connection between your dealings with E-on and the calls you are now getting and I suspect that is nothing more than a coincidence. I'm always reluctant to assist any debt collection agency and as they are not looking for you I wouldn't concern yourself too much. The way in which credit files are now constructed if any action was taken against "D. Stanford" by UDS then it will not reflect on you. At some point there is a chance that a call will come in while you're at home. You can then give them the information at their cost.
UDS (Utility Debt Services) used to be owned by Powergen but are now part of the E-on set up although they are a separate limited company. Can't find a freephone number for them.My very sincere apologies for those hoping to request off-board assistance but I am now so inundated with requests that in order to do justice to those "already in the system" I am no longer accepting PM's and am unlikely to do so for the foreseeable future (August 2016).
For those seeking more detailed advice and guidance regarding small claims cases arising from private parking issues I recommend that you visit the Private Parking forum on PePiPoo.com0 -
