With all the info above Gabyjane you have plenty of reasons to be worth it ( which I did take as tongue in cheek ).

Many people didn't get raises last year as most were happy just to have jobs, but the fact more work has been taken on is a really good reason to request that to be reflected in your pay.

Also not being off ill and being loyal (11 yrs service) are good reasons to ensure for the employer to try and keep you.

    Good luck with your request.

Thanks for your reply (glad someone got my i'm worth it bit lol)..anyway yes i was glad of a job still last year! i have heard nothing and am not holding my breath tbh but we will see.
    Thanks again x

I think a cleaner is a really important job.

Our boss got rid of our cleaner to "cut costs" and is done when they feel like it, by him and his bit of fluff.

Needless to say the place is filthy.

Right well after what..9 days after i handed the letter in i was about to ask again today what was going on! My boss came in and sat down with me and said they had agree to the letter:j BUT!! they can't effectively put my wages up and therefore have decided to do the following..

They have decided that my holiday hours which will be 20+ B/hols work out to about 28 days pay..they are then going to divide this up over my working hours and come up with a figure of hourly pay.

Now i make it as me being better off in a way but dh doesn't, he says i will get the same wages but in a different sort of way..my argument is IF i don't take any holiday i WILL be better off..i think! if i do then i lose what i would ahve been paid..does that make sense..
Someone help me work it out please!!

They are letting me monday/tue what my hurly rate will be..my boss also said that as of next year wages will be back to normal pay rise's etc..irrelevant now though!

They are basically using rolled up holiday which must be shown clearly on your payslip as basic wage and holiday pay.

You must still take 5.6 weeks off work to comply with Working Time Regulations so although you will notice a better rate of pay when you work, you will actually end up worse off when your on holiday as you will not be paid. Either way you havent recieved any sort of payrise.

Hi i understand what you are saying but trust me my work wont do this rolled up pay..they do EVERYTHING differently to how it should be done..after 11+ years there i know what they are like..law or not!

If i type it down here to see if i can make sense of it again maybe it will make it clearer for me.

    5 days per week £6.50 p/hour x 2 hrs= £65.00 per week

Then there is the holiday/ B/Holidays 28 days at £13 per day so £364..
so over a year i recieve:

    52 weeks @ £65 = £3380

What i cant work out is how they divide the holiday bits up (rubbish at maths!)..do they divide the holidays into my year - 4 weeks holiday so:

48 weeks normal pay then the holiday divided up into this? ahh cannot do it..need to know when they come back to me if it is worth doing? if there is no difference why are they offering it? If i didnt take any holiday surely im better off as they will have paid it and i wouldnt have lost it? If i dont take it currently i lose it..no pay for it..

Now i have completely confused you all..help!

In that the letter has been written and the situation discussed with your employers. I posted before reading the entire thread.

5.6 weeks holiday that you must take so you work for (52-5.6) 46.4 weeks.

    £3380/46.4 = £72.85 which should be shown as £65 and £7.85 holiday.

You will still get £3380 a year and not get paid for the holidays.
