ps. I also have the coat pocket issue too!! Always seems to be some bits floating about in my pocket even when I think I have given him them all! :rotfl: :rotfl:
Heehee, I tried to give my 5 year old son a furry bit of cheese today when he did something I asked him too - I swear its become a reflex to reach for the pocket "Good boy, cheeeeese!" - everyone thinks I have gone loopy (or loopier) :rotfl:0 -
Jerky is a great one! My parents labrador literally drools for it. It is pretty stinky so it will def need to go in a little bag in your pocket!0

Thrive. I use the freeze dried chicken/fish as clicker treats for both cats and dogs.0

Cheap liver from your supermarket.... cut into small cubes, sprinkle with garlic salt & bake on a low heat until hard!
Keeps for ages, cheap & dogs love it!Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0 -

Thanks I will try this - I gave him raw liver with his dry food a few days ago and he wouldn't touch it. To be honest this way sounds much tastier0 -
Seconding the liver and cheese. Also aniseed, licorice and similar flavours like coltsfoot.
Raw offal can cause stomach upsets if they're not used to it, as can too much cooked offal - probably not a problem if it's just a snack for training purposes though.:coffee:Coffee +3 Dexterity +3 Willpower -1 Ability to Sleep
Playing too many computer games may be bad for your attention span but it Critical Hit!0 -
Hi guys,
I have posted here a few times about my troubled rescue dog Wilson who has severe problems with other dogs to the extent that he is going properly wild whenever he sees another dog (any dog, near or far!). I am black and blue from his thrashing about - he is a big lad and strong as heck when he gets going!
Anyway I am trying to divert his attention with food and having no success at all so far when other dogs are about - any other time he will do anything for grub! I have cut his food intake back to the bare minimum (he was underweight when I got him so has been getting lots of extras) and am walking him at least 7 miles a day - he is only about 18 months so has lots and lots of energy.
So my question is, what do your dogs find really really irresistable? I am looking for any ideas at all really, preferably really whiffy stuff that will distract and hopefully stop him building up to such an hysterical state!
Thanks in advance
I haven't seen your other posts about Wilson but if he is doing as you describe then it sounds as if he is over his threshold and too stressed to eat whatever you may be offering him.A dog with a behaviour problem needs help not punishment.0 -
When our dog could have treats we bought a little plastic pot from asda for 25p and used to put his tit bits in it, saved our pockets getting dirty. As an added bonus the 'popping' noise as we opened it would get instant attention as he knew he was going to get something nice. We would open the lid making silly noises like 'oh WOW, what's this then' seemed to do the trick for us.0

He definitely is! When he really goes up I cant get him to do anything at all, its a case of stopping him from hurting anybody with his thrashing about - I am developing very strong arms! I am at the moment working with him in the garden - next door have a jack russell that he can see through the fence and the little fella does anything it can to get his attention. As Wilson is much more responsive to me out there I have spent an hour today getting him to ignore the jack and take roast chicken from me with some success. Obviously its easier as I can take him back inside if he reacts and wait for him to calm down.
To be honest its so hard - I feel I am way out of my depth here (I was told by the rescue that he was a very friendly boy and good with other dogs!) but I owe it to him to help him - at times I feel like tying him to a lampost and running away0 -
