Try www.pistonheads.co.uk , I have bought a car through them and it seems ok. I think it is free to advertise.

I can recommend Auto Trader. I used them for a 3 week magazine and web advert and paid £40 (think you can get £10 or so back on cashback sites but I didn't bother).

    So can I.

I have sold all manner of cars through AutoTrader, including classics. I've always sold the car.

This was when I lived in the North West where there are lots of buyers close at hand. can't comment on how good they are in rural areas.

lol, we will buy any car.con reckon my £12,000 mercedes is only worth £8,800, thats a good deal(not), webuyanycar.con offered the same sort of figure, these companies are good for desperate people and idiots only, steer well clear is my advice or risk a 30% loss on whatever you could get privately, mercedes would probably pay me more than that, they also offered the same percentage loss on my £11000 shogun, parasites that live off of other peoples ignorance would be my description of the two companies

How much would you get for your "£12000" Merc trading it into a dealer?

That's essentially what you're doing except you're not buying another car from them - hence they offer just under trade price for everything.

WBAC quote my car at £5025 - Glass's Guide reckons £5450 trade-in price and I paid £5750 for it .

Most people won't buy a car privately which costs over £10k!

At least I won't - at that price I'll buy from somewhere where I can comeback if something goes wrong immediately (most dealers give 1-yr warranty on used cars)
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

Just thought I'd let you know, webuyanycar.com say my car is worth £640 - I bought it 2 years ago for £1,500. I wasn't expectiong much, but I think I probably could get £1000 so it fits in with what kaya was saying about giving you 30% less.

I've heard that the "We Buy Any Car" type of dealers will offer you a price and then haggle you down when you take the car to them. They'll look the vehicle over and say, "Oh, I have to knock £200 off for that tiny little scratch" etc etc.

I recently sold a 58 plate C Max that was worth £7-8.5k depending on what site I had it valued on, "We Buy Any Car" offered me £6.5k for it.

I didn't have any interest on Autotrader or Piston Heads and decided to put it on Ebay with a starting price (no reserve as you pay extra to list with a reserve) of £6.5k and got £6.7k for it. My thinking was if I couldn't sell it on Ebay then I would go to "We Buy Any Car" and see what they offered.

I was wanting to sell the car fairly quickly so only listed it for 5 days which was probably a mistake - I could have got a bit more I reckon if I'd listed it for longer.

If you set the starting price as the reserve then it works out cheaper on Ebay fees.
