A "quick sale" and "best price" generally don't go together.
A dealer will generally offer the lowest price, a private sale the highest.
The trade off being time, tyre kickers and test pilots

If you are going down the online route i was reading lastnight on another forum people had better dealings and prices from www.wewillbuyyourcar.com than webuyanycar.
Otherwise the market leaders are autotrader and ebay.
Preloved.com, gumtree, local news paper, Post office window, tesco board.
Use parkers.co.uk valuation service and price it correctly.
Most buyers will check the parkers website or glassesguide for values so if you are way over the guide price it won't shift.

This is really helpful as I want to sell my car too - what do people think of 'we buy any car'.com, the ads seem to be all over the tv and radio.0

lol, we will buy any car.con reckon my £12,000 mercedes is only worth £8,800, thats a good deal(not), webuyanycar.con offered the same sort of figure, these companies are good for desperate people and idiots only, steer well clear is my advice or risk a 30% loss on whatever you could get privately, mercedes would probably pay me more than that, they also offered the same percentage loss on my £11000 shogun, parasites that live off of other peoples ignorance would be my description of the two companies0

thanks, I thought they sounded a bit too good to be true - love the .con ! I've only got a second hand car, which is on it's last legs (or wheels) so I might try it just to see what they say - I will probably end up owing them!0

For a no hassle sale the Auctions are quite good.
The Auctions will give you some advice if you ring the - basically don't set the reserve too low or the "trade" will "steal" the car. set it a little above the expected sale price (auction can give a guide here) and leave a phone no so they can take a provisional bid and call you. you can then agree to accept.
BCA Auctions offer BCA SureSell service for private sellers.
You may get more selling private - but you can be bothered by an awful lot of timewasters, scammers and even thieves (depending on the type of car). People trying to pay with forged money, forged bank drafts, stolen cheques.
The honestjohn website gives some good advice on selling your car privately, at auction, or to a dealer.

If you've got car that;s not worth that much - give it a quick clean, or put through the local carwash and vacuum. Print up a neat For Sale sign on your PC with phone number and clearly marked price - stick it in the window and park it up somewhere where lots of people will see it. Costs nothing and will often get a result.Clare_king wrote: »thanks, I thought they sounded a bit too good to be true - love the .con ! Look on autotrader.com for an idea of what it's worth. Put your car details into the "advanced search" as if you were looking to buy the same model and you can see what people are asking.
Remember though that whatever price you ask - buyers will ALWAYS expect you to take less so factor this in. If you asked for £10 people will be wanting it for £5 !!!

Last one I tried a local paper ad which was expensive and got no replies. So I tried ebay reasonable price and you can load lots of photos, you can do a classified or ebay auction. Easy sale but have a close look at conditions people put on their ads e.g. buyer should bring photo ID and proof of address. If it is a large amount of money be careful of bankers drafts (counter cheques) as there have been thefts of these. I think you can do a check for stolen numbers by ringing your bank but not sure.0

I can recommend Auto Trader. I used them for a 3 week magazine and web advert and paid £40 (think you can get £10 or so back on cashback sites but I didn't bother).
You can start with a low price if you want. But the car I was selling was worth £3500 to me but as much as £5000 or so at a dealer. So as not to give it away too cheaply I started at £4,295, dropped to £3,985 week 2 and then £3,675 week 3. You can edit your adverts at anytime for website and by a Monday for the next magazine.
In the end I got £3,550 in week 3 which is what I was looking for but also meant I at least tried for a higher price when I had nothing to lose.0
