Virgin credit card - be careful with payments!!!

Just wanted to say received our credit card statement today, the payment had been made on time (or so I thought:() as we were 2 days late we had a £12 default sum and also £50 interest, as this was a 0% balance transfer I wasn't very happy:mad:, it also stated that next month the interest would be £55:mad:, thought about leaving it but phoned Virgin to ask why the interest was added on, they said it is because of the late payment but I have to admit the man I spoke to was very helpful and removed the interest charge, they also add the interest onto the minimum payment, so our £40 payment became £97, just want everybody to always double check their statements, wonder how many times this happens and nobody checks it out with their card company.

Set up a direct debit and this wont happen. You have to pay the minimum each month so do it by dd and forget about it.

I know what you mean, I guess I always think I can add more to the payment when I pay it, I guess I'm lucky they took the interest off I won't let it happen again!!!

What I do is set up a payment in my internet banking, so every month the minimum payment goes out by direct debit as usual and then I work out how much extra we can afford to pay and send that as well. Takes 2 mins as I dont need to look up the Virgin cc details as its already set up. Hope this helps.

  • The charge would also have thrown out the 0% deal as well by the payment being slightly late, unfortunately.

  • Apologies, this is an older thread i know, but it's the closest to my topic on the forum boards. I want to warn others/have a rant about my recent experience with virgin credit card and their customer service.

After transferring a balance last year to my virgin card (on their low 'life of balance' rate) i set up a standing order rather than a direct debit so i could make sure that a fixed amount left my account each month. I made sure the payment went through at least 5 days before their 'payment must be received' date and thought - "great sorted". My gripe is that last month they changed the request date so that it was 5 days earlier than usual (and a no bank trading sunday to boot) so my standing order was officially 1 day late! I'm so annoyed at them for fining me and messing up my credit rating. After complaining they said that i should have known because it was on my last month statement (it was but why should i have to look every month when my repayment is automatic?).

How can they justify changing the call-dates so much?! What's to stop them saying it should be the 10th one month and the 4th the next? What if i haven't been paid yet and the transaction fails? there's no logic to it (such as - say- the 3rd friday of the month). I'm never going to use virgin finance ever again because of this experience. very unhappy!

So what i learned from this is - do as this thread advises above and pay the minimum amount by direct debit and then top up with a standing order if you wish, so you don't get stung.

I think there was a news story on here about credit card payments in February because of the short month. I have credit card payments set up on internet banking so that when I have money and well before the due date, the money is paid.
