OP, if they cancelled your holiday in December (but failed to let you know) why didn't they refund you at that point? Also, when you called in to pay for upgrades, did they call up your details on their computer system as surely this would have alerted them to the cancelled flight? I would be inclined to complain to Thomas Cook for their failure to let you know in good time, provide a refund in good time and for their poor administration that led them to taking money off you for an upgrade to a holiday that no longer exists. I had a problem over some TC flights a few years ago and once I had been shall we say "very firm" with them in their shop, they bent over backwards to accommodate another booking I made for a holiday with them a few weeks later, even down to faxing the hotel with special requests so they can do it if pushed!

mypie, I'm sorry to hear about your experience and hope that you are able to find another package that suits your budget.

However, your signature says you're getting married in September so I assume that you still have six months to find another holiday. I'd argue that that's plenty of time to be able to find somewhere and, if you're prepared to wing it a little, I'll bet you can get great deals nearer the time.

I guess you could see if TC are prepared to help to find you another similar holiday for the same price. But that's all you can expect.

We do have plenty of time and there is more out there the more we are looking -thankfully.

Its just the fact that they knew for 3 months that is annoying me immensely as its tho we didn't matter. argh. I have calmed down from yesterday tho and will just now NEVER EVER book another holiday from TC.

    Strange response.

This all depends on the terms and conditions and the reasons for cancellation.

Despite what Proc says, they cannot simply walk away from an unprofitable contract.

They can. If a flight is half empty it'll be cancelled or consolidated with another one from another airport.

It used to be my job (many years ago) to ring up people who were booked on the cancelled flight and arrange alternatives for them.

the holiday is in September. They cancelled in December - apparently. I don't think this would be the reason.

OP is entitled to be told the reason. Besides, OP has not been offered an alternative.
