thomas cook cancelling our honeymoon.

We booked our honeymoon to fly from Belfast to Rhodes away back over 6 months ago. We selected out apartments as they had great reviews and the price fitted out budget. My mum gave us some money towards the wedding last week and we decided to go in to Thomas cook and upgrade on luggage and seats with the money. they took our upgrade and the money for them last week then rang us on Monday to say that TC had cancelled our flights and they would be refunding the total cost - ok so things like this happen and although we were annoyed there was nothing that could be done. I have since spent all week trying to find another honeymoon that fits our budget and dates and another travel agent has informed me that the flight tc have cancelled has been off for over 3 months I think the only reason we came to their attention is the fact we went into upgrade. I am so livid at the moment I don't think I could use TC again for anything for fear of this happening again. H2b called into the office today and they could only offer an apoligy and no explanation. they did say that there head office had sent them a letter in December informing them but it must have been lost in the post but surely these things should be followed up.we are now left with very little money and time to find a honeymoon and tc haven't even offered to help. I am just wondering if we even have a leg to stand on here.

You don't make it clear what you want?
A refund? Sounds like this has been offered?
What more could you possibly want? Maybe they should charter the flight that should have gone, especially just for you? That would be reasonable, cost-effective, and should certainly happen to every customer.
I'd suggest opening your mail in the future. If it has actually got lost in the post then that's just tough.
You mention that they cancelled it without reason and you can't seem to find something within the same price range? Well maybe they cancelled it because they realised that it wasn't financially viable. They're not a charity after all. Sure, they shouldn't be offering holidays to then cancel them, but you can show them your dissatisfaction by simply not using them again.
What do you mean that you don't "have a leg to stand on"? In what sense? Are they taking you to court? Are they chasing you for money? I don't understand?0 -
your a bit of a pleasent person eh.
they didn't send us the letter so we could hardly open it as they sent it to the travel agent.
all we want is a honeymoon out of it. Considering they have known for 3 months that they have cancelled the flights you would have thought they could have done more about telling us or offering us alternative accomadation and flights to another resort at no extra cost.
I don't expect charity from anyone or any company but I do expect to get the service I pay for and a pretty damn good explanation if I don't.“A house is made of walls and beams;a home is built with love and dreams.”2012 Challenge to buy most gifts and non essentials from money made online.:money:0 -

From a consumer perspective it's not a valid reason. From their perspective, it's more than valid. This is preciesly why I said to not use them again.0 -
Was it booked as a package holiday, or as separate components?Gone ... or have I?0

I would be contacting head office and asking them to sort something out. They could issue you with vouchers.
Personally I would just jump on a plane and hire a car and see where you end up.0 -

I was ok about them cancelling it as I thought they only found out but to know that it has been 3 months just cracks me up.“A house is made of walls and beams;a home is built with love and dreams.”2012 Challenge to buy most gifts and non essentials from money made online.:money:0 -

Strange response.
This all depends on the terms and conditions and the reasons for cancellation.
Despite what Proc says, they cannot simply walk away from an unprofitable contract.0 -
