Hi,

I've just switched Gas and Electricity suppliers. The closing / opening bills for the electricity are based on the readings I gave the new company and are correct. However, the gas readings are way off the figures I gave the new company. The readings used are only 15 cubic ft less than the current readings (26 days later). I've made a complaint to my new company and they've opened up a complaint to the transportation company on my behalf. Apparently the transportation company didn't use my readings but estimated the readings. Why does this happen and how does it get sorted?

Thanks

It happens if the reading suggest by the supplier does not fit in with the reading history and your annual consumption.

The bottom line is you will only pay for the gas once so you will either pay the old supplier at their price or the new supplier at their price.

You say '28 days later' but is that 28 days from when you submitted the reading or the supply start date with you new supplier because the latter date is what matters.

    Hi, Spiro

The first opening reading was on the 1st Feb. The second reading I took was on the 26th. This was the one that was only 15 cubic feet more. My problem is that the old supplier was 3.8p per unit and the new supplier is 2.4p per unit. Hence the move. The difference in units between the reading I gave and the one they used is about 1200 so with the reading they used, I'm just under £17 worse off!!!!! Hence my complaint.

    Thanks

As it's well under most suppliers' threshold for raising a dispute, your new supplier may credit you the difference? Might be worth asking at least! :)

Nope, they've sent it off. The new supplier btw is OVO. Looks like it's a case of wait and see.
