Minimum "Downgrade" period on Vodafone?

Hi guys, just looking for some sage words of advice here....

Bought a new moby on January 20th on a £40/month contract, with the hope of "downgrading" to the £17.50/month anytime 75 plan after 6 months...

So, it's 6 months later, call up Carphone Warehouse (who my contract is with) and ask the guy for the downgrade....

COMPUTER SAYS NO!!!!

I tell the guy that even the cpw website states 6month min before downgrade, and tell him to click on this link:

http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/commerce/servlet/gben-pd-ProductDisplay?S=20&PN=MONTHLY&NODE_ID=7885

then click on "Vodafone" under the "Available Networks" bit....

It says:

"Vodafone customers cannot migrate their tariff down within six months of taking out a new connection or upgrade."

Which means that after 6 months, you can, no?

Anyway, got put on hold for 10mins, when he came back, he told me to contact vodafone themselves after 27th July as thats when all the cpw contracts go back to voda....

Can anyone advise the best course of action here?

I called today as this is my first day over 6months, i don't wanna pay another 7days at the higher contract rate, but cpw say there's nothing they can do!!!

HELP!!!

Call Vodafone customer services and ask them, you've got nothing to lose.

thanks guys, just think it's pretty poor that i was led to believe it was a min 6month when i got my phone, now it's changed to 9!!!!!

I cant call/register on the voda site, as i'm not technically gonna be a voda customer until 27th July (voda are bringing all their outsourced contracts back in-house)

I also signed up to a deal with osps about this time - apparently the downgrade period went up to 9 months at the start of the year but not sure if this is a cpw thing or a vodafone thing. I am waiting till switch to voda billing before I do anything - either way you will only be able to downgrade on a monthy billing date. Not sure how the switch will affect cashback either.
    I think....

As michaels says, the change from 6 to 9 months was made earlier this year. You need to establish exactly whether you committed to a contract before or after the date the switch was made. However, even though Vodafone CPWS have told you that you are unable to downgrade at this point, I would escalate the issue if you believe you were sold the contract with the condition that you could do so after 6 months.

I would not rely on what Vodafone CPWS tells you. After all, the terms and conditions on the CPW website still states '6 months'!

You should however still be able to confirm direct with Vodafone when the condition change was made and check this matches with what Vodafone CPWS says. Just contact Vodafone as a non-customer.

As for the customer service rep you spoke to telling you to call back on 27th July, that is pure incompetence on CPW's behalf. Until your service provider becomes Vodafone itself all issues should be handled by CPWS.

I have always advised people to avoid dealing with CPWS. Let's hope they can make a success of the Vodafone migration. It's a shame they are still going to (mis)manage a stack of O2 customers!
