I adore our cats BUT..

Gaby it may be that a dominant cat that you have not seen has moved into the area and they are simply nervous to go further than your garden?
My cat never goes further than our tiny back garden luckily. Anyway hope you sort it all out.
Again, a great suggestion from Larmy. (You definitely know your pusscats, Larmy!) This could well be the case. It could definitely be someone (feline, human, canine) or something outside of your garden area that has scared them.
Watch them and see if they do venture further afield or whether they stay close to home and you could have your answer.0 -
Meant to add thinking about it there is 1 cat we have spotted who was in the garden yesterday (nothing new with cats popping through though)..will keep an eye on him but our older one sat on the grass earlier while this one walked by him without flinching..it is one i dont recognise though as dh pointed it out.
Indeed it doesn't sound as though he's the culprit, but there could be another cat (or something else) out there.0 -
I think your cats are basically a wee bit confused. Personally even with outdoor cats its worth having litter trays. its better them pooing in them rather than your floor. You need to get them out of the habit of using your floor as a toilet so as much as you don't like them litter trays are a good start. Once they are using them you can move them outside to encourage the cats to toilet outside.
It's more hygenic they use litter trays rather than your floor. As others have mentioned confusion seems to be the problem0 -
Well Gaby thanks for posting anyway as I have learned something new and that is that cats like to poo in the bark stuff. I had no idea so will be hot footing it down to Wickes to get some for my naughty mog!Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

I think the point is being highly missed in that they are not new cats?? we have had one years, trained from day one and NEVER pood inside like this? the kitten too..fully trained..weened off the tray and goes outside..not normally in our garden but still.0 -
I think you have very little understanding of cat behaviour. Larmy16 is the only one who has come close to working out what the problem may be, apart from the fact you're giving them conflicting messages as to where they are allowed to do their toilet!!
There's a new cat in the neighbourhood and your cats have retreated to the safety of their own garden for now. You say you know where they were previously going? Keep an eye on that area and you may well discover the new kid on the block“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
I agree but they are not ill as such..like a weak bladder or tummy upset as they seem to pick and choose where and when. Are yo saying they have both suddenly gone mad in the last week?
Do you seriously think every person or animal with a diagnosable mental illness is "mad"? Disorders of mental health incorporates clinical depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, chronic stress and state anxiety all of which pets can suffer from. If you think all those conditions make you mad then you are writing off about two thirds of the human population! Few mental or physical health conditions manifest overnight, most build up over a period of time until symptoms are apparent to others.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

Lol.. oh please give over with the ridiculas turned round replys..you know damn well what i was getting at and you know it..there is nothing 'mentally' wrong with the cats.
Their 'may' be a new cat as we have spotted one but apart from that nothing else we can think of..jeez this site sucks at times.0 -

Err yes why do you think i posted on here..on the pet section?? having taken them to the vets and nothing it's worth trying isn't it? Sorry i didnt realise i should have trained as a vet first?
The other highlighted bit..you know this for a fact do you? i said we saw another cat that may be new?? i dont know there are loads of cats round here..they dont retreat to the garden either they go all over.
I'm sorry to those of you who think i'm stupid and can't see the blindingly obvious..it would be nice for some of you to be a little less harsh though.0 -

Ok, let's get the sarcasm out of the way first shall we?
1) This section is about MONEYSAVING for pets, i.e. where to buy cheapest products and get the best deals etc ... not for advice on animal behaviour, medical conditions etc... not that you'd know it to look at some of the threads!
2) You don't need to qualify as a vet to have at least a little basic understanding of cat behaviour, particularly if you own them!
3) You've been given the likely cause of the problem, yet you are still questioning it!
4) No one can give you a 100% guarantee what the problem is or how to solve it online.
I'm not sure what else you want or expect to be honest! Do you want me to come and keep watch on your garden for you to confirm there's a new kitty on the block? I'll happily do that if you're willing to pay my expenses and time“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
