how come this bloke didnt hear the car crash outside his house:rotfl:
Then of course the bobbies creep on foot, not having a car and making sure they dont put their blue lights on and wake the neighbourhood, and then along comes the really quiet recovery truck and who quietly tippy toes around and really really quietly drags the car up the the back of the truck still not making a sound, and of course switching off his engine and being really quiet and your man still doesnt hear a thing, not even the copper banging on the door.....priceless, but never ever let truth get in the way of a good story...hic. :T
It was all explained on a post on this very forum - just do a search.0 -

Different Forces may have different policies. You should check what your Forces policy is.
I did, and was told to get a monitored alarm and let the alarm company have the keyholders details. But hey, at least they dont believe in static speed (s)cameras, so at least they have one thing right.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

Ah well you win some, you lose some.
Seems like a fair swap to me.:D0 -
I've just thought of a great money making scheme:
a: buy towtruck, gravel yard with a big fence round it and a few fierce dogs
b: get contract for recovery with local police force
c: pay some scroat £20 a time to go round smashing car windows
d: get £200+ for each recovery £20 to scroat, £20 bribe to Chief Constable, £160 profit a go

if you think its that easy then crack on
you'll be back here in 3 months whinging about how little the police pay you.0 -
That’ll cheer the OP up, not only is his £200 subsidising difficult recoveries for the police but now it’s doing the AA, RAC etc etc as welli will look at this from a recovery agent point …………then theres the amount the breakdown clubs pay aa rac green flag all pay in the region of £30 per call out makes no odds if its 3pm or 3am its still the same……...0 -
i dont like the fact the recovery agent is getting grief for just doing their job and charging what they are told to charge. That’ll cheer the OP up, not only is his £200 subsidising difficult recoveries for the police but now it’s doing the AA, RAC etc etc as well
if people think they are onto a winner they are sorly mistaken this is an industry that is wheighed dowm with regualtions and massive investment which in this cut price cost cutting age offers very little return.
bear in mind these firms do work for the AA AND RAC GREEN FLAG and so forth if recovery agents continue to go out of business then it is us the motorists who will suffer when our cars are broken down late at night.if the op is unhappy with his situation then i suggest he writes to his chief constable for a refund so we can all pay for it in our council tax0 -

Don't get upset, now. I'm not sure who you think I am, but I certainly don't come on here ranting - and I wouldn't have been asking why the police hadn't towed my car away if it had been set on fire! We have no idea about these things, and I was asking for advice, not ranting. I can't say I'm overjoyed at having to pay £250 just because I wasn't at home at the time - and we may be being naiive, but the police officer didn't mention anything at all about recovery fees, so we didn't imagine there would be any.
The fact is that the recovery fee alone is much more than the car is worth, which is why we are more than a bit narked.0 -

No doubt if the police hadn't recovered the car, then someone came along and caused more damage or stole from inside, the OP would be posting about that!
Seriously, people need to give the police a break, they did their best in the situation. Insurance will cover the cost, if you choose not to claim off it then that's your choice
No doubt. Cheers sunshine.0
