Of you're on one of their online tariffs, especially if you live in Yorkshire, CHECK YOUR PLAN NOW. I was on the v1 plan and found out yesterday that they have a much cheaper v6 plan which they haven't told anyone about but they're "going to."
Just rang them apparently it has only been going for a couple of days, they said it would be cheaper than my current V5 which I started with them back in August 2009, the only downside I can see at first glance is I would be tied in to this scheme untill June 2011. But as I am quite happy with there customer service etc over the past 6 months or so maybe it might not be that bad.0 -
No supplier is under any obligation to inform you if a new cheaper product becomes available. It wouldn't make commercial sense for them to do so. It is up to the consumer to keep up to date with the market, put something in your calendar and check once a month (but be aware of cancellation fees that may be applicable if you leave early).
There is a website that will check tariffs periodically and inform you if a cheaper product (based on your consumption and current product) becomes available. Its www.superswitcher.com, its fairly new I found the web site was fairly slow to load and a bit unresponsive, but the information all looks correct.0 -
It has only come out in the last couple of days. I popped on here and told everyone about it a few days ago. I signed up to v5 in January so not worth me switching really as difference would only be about £3 a year when take in account £25 cancellation fee.0

You are tied in until 31 March 2011 with your current version 5 anyway, but to switch to version 6 will cost you a £25 penalty each for both gas and electricty and as JennyR68 said, it hardly makes switching worthwhile.0 -
sorry to hijack, but how you getting on with EDF online tarrifs, im happy with EDF and want to move over to paperless billing, but there customer services dont seem to know a lot about the internet side of things, (i've had trouble with the my account and know one seems to know how it works so after being passed around 5 people im expecting a call back ) so that make me feel a bit iffy about going paperless with them0

I've been with them sinc August last year everythinga been ok upto now, I make sure I put my meter readings in on line each month and we are paper billed every quarter but you can view your account status anytime online so I really have'nt had a problem so far.0 -

According to EDF they only charge the £25 when you switch supplier not when you switch to a different tariff when you are already with them.0 -

How does the account status work? I can see they applied a charge to mine on the 22nd Jan that bears no relation to my usage and my bill isn't due till 17th May. I tried giving them readings but they weren't accepted.0 -

According to their NOTES & ADDITIONAL CHARGES AND DISCOUNTS which are part of the Version 5 tariff:
A.A £25.00 early termination fee will be applied to yourelectricity account should you change your electricity
tariff before 31 March 2011 as defined in the full
Online S@ver Version 5 rules.
B.
A £25.00 early termination fee will be applied to your
gas account should you change your gas tariff before
31 March 2011 as defined in the full Online S@ver Version 5 Tariff rules
So, from that it would seem that the penalties apply when you change tariff as well as when you change supplier.
Did you speak to someone at EDF who said you wouldn't be penalised for changing tariff?ETA: Called EDF tonight and their information above is incorrect. There is no penalty if you switch tariffs within EDF.
The notes on their new Online Saver Version 6 have been amended to show penalties if you change supplier rather than change tariff.0
