my Spitz does this, if fact he's not so much looking as listening intently (confuzzled little [STRIKE]Schitz[/STRIKE] Spitz ).

If one of my cats rubs her b*m along the carpet then I know it's time to worm them. Don't know if dogs do it for the same reason though?

People often mistakenly think the bum scooting thing is worms. It may be the case with cats, but with dogs its anal glands. I empty my dogs' glands every time I bath them and this stops the scooting!:o Get the vet to check when they are next due for a booster or if they go for anything else. Groomers will often do anal glands for you too.

My sister's lab used to stare at the floor for ages. He'd see a reflection of something and he'd scratch at the floor and then just stand and stare to see if he could see it again. He'd ignore everyone. He used to do it when he was out in the back garden, if it was sunny, as well.

I think it's a fixation with shadows, iirc, Victoria Stillwell helped a family whose dog just chased its own shadow all day.

Try google, it might throw up some answers.

  • Maybe he is having a petit mal epileptic fit? Dogs do have epilepsy? Have seen collies who stared at walls for hours on end.
