    Not just " incorrect".

Dangerous too should any others take it as correct "advice"

jorainbow -- here is one call complaints email complaints@onecalldirect.co.uk

easier than phoning - you can be hold for hours
  • This is from Onecall's Charges document

    "£35.99
    £49.99
    Set up fee applied
    (within cooling off
    period): Renewals
    New business
We reserve the right to make a charge to cover the cost of setting
up your policy where your cover is cancelled within the cooling off
period - £35.99 for Renewals and £49.99 for new business policies.
This period is effective from when you accept your application to
    purchase the insurance policy"

Does anyone know if this is actually legal, as it seems to be trying to override your consumer rights?

    Quite legal.

Don't enter any contract before reading and understanding the TS & CS you accept when entering the contract

Yes they are total rip off merchants. I was unwise enough to take out some motorcycle insurance with them. Half the cost of anybody reputable I wonder why!!??? I only got two acknowledgement emails, no documents or link to get them online. I chased them twice on the chat. The second time they asked me to confirm my email and I missed the fact that it had been slightly and craftily misspelt. After keeping me on the chat for over two hours they suddenly spotted 'I' had given them the wrong email so of course it was all my fault. I asked them how they could have had the wrong email on file when they had sent me an email. They told me that it was sent by confused.com. Well I checked the headers on the email and one call had clearly sent it. I came to the conclusion that this is a tactic to deflect the blame form them. They are refusing to refund me, even though the insurance had not started, without taking the 49.99 'arrangement' fee..
The staff are obnoxious to deal with too.

I am currently going through this with OCL. In short third party insurers Admiral have refused to pay out costs to Commercial Legal for repairs to my vehicle and replacement car hire after my car was hit and damaged whilst parked on a garden centre car park. I am being pursued relentlessly by OCL who are now asking for my financial information for a 4 month period rounding the time it occurred. When asked for a viable reason why this is relevant the reply was we can get a higher rate pay out if you couldn’t cover the costs yourself. A solicitor has advised me to reply saying that is not a viable reason as the costs are the costs, no higher or lower rate just the sum total. Their reply came back with a veiled threat that they will therefore pursue Admiral in court and if there is a shortfall then Commercial Legal the repair company involved who my insurer One Call put me straight through to when it happened, will come after me for the rest of the costs. I am ill with it all now after 16 months, they just will not leave me alone no matter what I reply and have said my solicitor has given me incorrect advice. I just don’t know what to do next. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  • I have just received a letter threatening me with debt recovery agency after I cancelled my policy when they wanted to charge an extortionate admin fee. Is this legal

    Yes.

It would have been cheaper to pay the admin fee as you were supposed to, but now would be the second best time to pay it, before too many additional fees are added.
  • I did explain I wanted to cancel the policy. but they don't seem to have done this. I have emailed them and had no reply?
