Not really. Hot air from the bath/shower, laden with moisture, hits the cold surface and instantly dumps the moisture. It takes a long time to dry because the surface is cold.

It's worse because it's winter, and the cold surface is very cold. Some time in the future, you could try untextured blown vinyl - it does have a heat-insulating effect. Though any sort of pattern will be awful to get clean...

I don't know if this is really advisable but our first flat was full of damp, the walls were always mottled black, and I just used to spray Mold & Mildew remover on it and leave it. A couple of hours later, the black would have all but disappeared, without any wiping down or anything.

Careful spraying it up at the ceiling though, it's horrible stuff, you don't want to cover yourself with it. And always keep the room ventilated whilst using it, it makes me cough and wheeze.

Someone will probably shout at me now because you're not supposed to do that or something. :rotfl:

No - not enough moisture escapes. It's a mould - it needs moisture or it dies pretty quickly. If it's any consolation, Mir (the space station) was like a rancid fridge during its last years for exactly the same reasons.
