Hi
I'm trying to book a journey, preferably from Warrington to London Euston(although could at a push leave from Wigan / Liverpool / Manchester).
Leaving 9am onwards on 11/12 returning 4pm onwards 12/12. (If for some reason it makes a big difference to the train fare we could make it a two night stay leaving on 10th).
Two tickets required, best I can come up with on Virgin / Trainline is £119.40 for 2. Can't manage to find any usable discount promotion codes.
Any help getting this price down would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Yes - be patient and wait for the cheap single fares to be released. It's just after the winter timetable change so they may well be late because of this.
The fare you have found is a walk on fare that you can buy on the day, so you won't lose anything by waiting.
99% of the time discount codes don't exist.0 -

Sorry, I mis-read your post originally Martin. My journey was a transpennine one  so no wonder it didn't work. Thanks0

I successfully used the code a few days ago,(GNER rail trip) now, for the same route (different dates) it comes back as invalid
I've tried it for different routes on GNER and it comes back as invalid.
Looks like it is of no use.
Got any more??

What's the cheapest from King's Lynn to London Kings Cross travelling on the 27th December and coming back on the 30th December? Cheapest I can find for the two of us is £72 saver return.0

That's the cheapest you'll get, I'm afraid. It's regarded as a suburban route and there are no advance purchase discounts. £36 each is what you'll pay on the day so no point in buying now.
I've had a quick look at split ticketing and it looks more expensive.0 -
Hi there
This is my first post although i have been reading this site for a few years now.
I will be staying in Edinburgh on the 6 Jan until 11 Jan 08.As i dont really want to travel by car i was hoping to find a good value train ticket.I have looked on various rail company websites after they all say to book early for great discounts.I dont know if its just me but i cant seem to find any of these "London to Edinburgh for only £28" deals.
I was hoping to someone could give me a few tips as how to get a good deal.
I want to travel from either Derby or Chesterfield to Edinburgh Waverley station.Any time from either station for 2 adults with possibly 1 or 0 changes.
Is it better to wait until nearer the time to see if the prices get cheaper or try to book now?
hope anyone can help0 -

If you are travelling from Derby or Chesterfield to Edinburgh most of the cheap tickets are not yet released - Cross Country Trains will be releasing about a month's worth of tickets on 24 October for travel after 8 December (or so their web site said a few days ago - the date has now vanished...). How far into January they will go then is not clear - maybe a further wait??
So yes - wait. If you book now you'll get the full fare - which you would pay on the day at the station.
The GNER fares (which will involve at least one change) may be available now.0
