Fon with a non-BT isp?

Does anyone know if its possible to use Fonera with another ISP instead of being a BT Fon user.
I have an orange livebox connection at home but am going to be working somewhere with no broadband... I noticed today on my mobile that there are a few fon hotspots in my work area and would like to try it out.
Just wondered if anyone has used fon with their isp and how it worked out. I realised its a little iffy with most isps T&C but I am rarely home to use my broadband allowance and am in very a residential area so hope that my account wouldnt be overly abused!
Anyone?

You can get unlimited access to BT Openzone (e.g. BT FON) and The Cloud WiFi networks if you use O2 mobile broadband...
It's included on O2 mobile broadband pay as you go (or pay monthly) - but you have to be in credit for it to work - although it won't use up your purchased allowance if that makes sense.0 -
I've seen several comments about FON here but don't recall any positive ones.
Here is someone's experience - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1972505&highlight=fon
I think it's a brilliant idea but the range of a wireless router inside a house isn't going to be all that good so finding a working and convenient hotspot to use would be a bit of a gamble0 -
I used FON for a little while when I was waiting for a new broadband connection to be installed at my house.
I didn't have the Fonera router (just picked up the connection with my laptop) and I've never been with BT so I didn't sign up using that account, just created a new one. It was fairly expensive - I'd imagine that I'd at least be more smug if I'd used a BT account - but I really needed the internet for work so it was worth it and the connection was stable and not-appallingly slow.0
