Water Rates Exceedingly High?

Options
Hello guys,

Annual water statement has just fallen through the letterbox this morning with rates for 10/11 from United Utilities. I am currently paying £27.33 per month (rateable value), as of April they want to charge me £47.88 - the difference is extortionate?

Before I make a call to them, does anyone know why this could be?

They might be trying to persuade you into getting a water meter installed

    Rates haven't risen that much.

So it could be that your have arrears from the previous year, although that could only have been a mistake on their part, or you failed to pay!!

Does the bill indicate a carried forward sum?

As Cardew has said, that is not possible (ok not exactly their words but that was the gist)

Either the bill is wrong ( unlikely if you are already a customer as they have an account already set up and the billing cycle etc should be right) or you have arrears that you have not cleared from the last bill

What is the billing amount ? Giving us the payment plan amount is not really much help as that is not your bill or the RV

UU's Domestic prices have come down by 5ish% and so if your payments have gone up you must have not been paying the correct amount last year.

You bill will say what you charges are for this year and also the balance of anything that you did not pay last year.

How long have you had your account? if it was only last year did you request a set amount? if you check your last bill from them it will say if the payments you were making were enough to cover the balance.

Still unsure? give them a call

Have they changed the DD from 12 months to 8? (YW did that a few years ago).

[edit] 12 months to 8 wouldn't do it - more like 12 to 6 if prices have come down.

Hmmm I've not heard about that. My water bill from UU just came today £282.88, last year's bill was £244.43 which is about a 15/16% increase :( for me.

Edit: After calling UU found out that my last year's bill actually had a credit of £40 from the previous year so was in actual fact £284.43 meaning I'm saving just under £2 this year :) yippeeee! (not quite).

Just recognised a payment of 150ish carried forward from year prior. Don't get it since I just got out last years statement and all payments were processed via DD. Will have to call them to get to bottom of it.

    Cheers folks.
