But yes you are right to check the brakes, probably not right to get it checked at kwikfit. I would even go as far as to avoid ATS these days. Small independent garages usually charge a better price than the big nationals do. Did you not have a warning light on the car long before it got to this stage though? Sorry, never driven a micra but every car I have driven has had a warning light when brake pads get low enough to reveal the censor.

Depends how bad the noise is before you lay into the op.
Micra's can have the wear warning tabs on the front pads, to make a noise when they wear low. It's when that stops, then gets a lot louder days later it's time to worry.
