Hi, just read through your diary, well done on what you have paid off so far.
Have a look on the OldStyle board, there is a grocery challenge thread and there are loads of meal ideas and recipes. Also there is a meal plan for the week thread.
I have been trying to write down on my diary a rough meal plan and then what we eat.
We like the sainburys basics curry sauce & sweet and sour sauce. Mixed with diced chicken, either fresh or stripped off a roast chicken and then add a tin of diced new potatoes & frozen peas to the curry and serve with rice, or add peppers, sweetcorn & a tin of basics pineapple bits to the sweet n sour.
Really tasty and the curry is 9p sweet n sour 27p a jar.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
Thanks Whatatwit, I might have to try the basics sauces as ive never even noticed them in the supermarket before. Im trying to avoid Sainsburys at the mo as I only seem to have to look at it and spend £80! I am waiting on a £50 shopping voucher for taking out my home ins with them, hopefully it will come before Friday so I can go there haha!!!
Our typical meals in our house are:-
lasagne
spaghetti bolognaise
Sunday roast
sausage & mash
fahitas
homemade quiche
curry
chilli
pizza
chicken kiev
omelettes
Really quick meals as I work and also having 2 little ones, I like them to eat well (i put veg into my pasta sauces etc) but need them to be quick meals.
Will get over the old style board and check it out.Mummytogirls x0 -
I know what you mean with the meals. We are trying to really cut back this month so are eating the contents of the freezer and store cupboards - so unexciting but the buzz of knowing we are saving money makes the slop taste a little better! Sorry Twinmum xposted you there!! Yes I know what you mean about the buzz of paying off the debt!
Another thing I used to spend a fortune on was desserts for the kids. Last year I was buying those little pots of ambrosia rice pudding at 40p a pot! I started making my own and saved an absolute fortune as a bag of pudding rice only costs about 80p and last ages.
Next to be axed was the petit filous yoghurts costing £1.50 for 6. They now have M's or T's value fromage frais at 45p for 6 and they havent noticed any difference what so ever! I could actually kick myself for the amount of money ive been throwing at these supermarkets all these years!!!Mummytogirls x0 -
Dont know whether this is just coincidence?! But logged into my emails and ive got an email from Tescos offering free delivery if I spend £50 or more on my next 2 shops!
I know il probably be spending in the region of £60-£70 anyway because we need absolutely everything so think il go for this..Mummytogirls x0 -
We use the value FF and they are delicious aren't they. The apricot is too good for the kids!
I came acroos a menu planner working on 30 meals so you use your basics and add in a few new recipes to try out every now and again and if they are a hit they make it into your list of 30. I guess that would work quite well alongside the old style ideas too.Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -

Found this Twinmum. On page one, theres a cheats chicken something or other. I bet my kids would absolutely love that!! Might take DH some getting used to though, with chicken and baked beans in one dish!!!Mummytogirls x0 -
Ooh that looks like a thread to sit down and browse with a coffee.
I have a baked bean phobia which means a lot of recipes are a no go for me. I can't hack the look of them, the smell of them or the feel of them so they are banned from our house!Est. debt free day April 2016 (ish) Debt at June 2010 £34,247.13Debt at Dec 2011 £27,499.09 (19.7% paid off)Working together with DH on our debts (twindad07)Long haulers supporters DFW #2560 -
