My own mum died when I was little. I remember being forced to make mother's day cards at school by teachers to give to my dad so as not to upset any of the other children because I was told if I mentioned my mum was dead, that would upset them!

. I think it coloured the day for me... and not in a positive way!

I moved out a couple of years ago... I never appreciated my parents when i lived at home..
In fact i was a bit of a little !!!!!!.. But now, i see her once ever 6 months, i work away and live on the west coast of wales, she lives east anglia..

For the first time ever, i have ordered her flowers, chocolates and a card for mothers day..
I miss her so much, funny how the saying goes, you never know what you got till its gone...
Took her for granted.. like so many kids do these days.. shocking really ...

Bah.. Anyway.. I hope its not a dissappointment for her.. :-)

  • i think if i didnt get a card i would be a bit miffed... i make an effort for fathers day so he better get the glitter out and help the kids make one,
i never expect a present but normally get some daffodils (i LOVE daffs... they make me happy...im so cheap! lol)
i always tell my DD if she really wants to get as present she should rope OH in and make me some cookies or a cake.

my mum alwats gets a card, sometimes made and sometimes bought but it takes forever to pick as they are all full of emotional 'best mum' stuff and that makes me so uncomfortable,
I only started making my own cards because i could never find a suitable one for most occasions,
she will get a little gift too but nothing spectacular
  • I think the thing with Mothers Day is you need to factor in your own Mother and the MIL so it isn't really your day.

I will get a card and a small gift (normally a mug) from the children, and then the day will be like any other normal one, I might get a lie-in, just depends how much the husband is snoring when the children wake!

I struggle with my mother, always have done, so like others have said I will get a Happy Mothers Day card to mark the day, but do my best to have basic wording, and none of the gushing ones.

I still have a singing card my son got me a few years ago, it sings 'Mummy You're the Greatest, the Best in Every Way, and I love You Very Much Every Single Day! Sung in a very sweet little voice, and that has to be the best thing I have had from him, it is so lovely, he then sang it after the card. Very sweet, and something to remember as he gets older.

Unfortunately my MIL is no longer with us and I don't speak to my own mother anymore so selfishly the day is all about me :p. I am very spoilt and get lovely gifts from my 4 - they are aged 8 and under so Daddy takes them shopping. They also make cards at school and pre-school.

Well, I will sort of miss out a bit this year - I will be away for the weekend with a youth group and won't get home until the Sunday afternoon. :(

I know the kids will make a card and I will get daffodils and Lindt chocs when I get in though :D

Then it will be a rush to visit my mum and MIL and I will be shattered by the evening.

Normally I would get tea and toast in bed with my 3 kids jumping around me :happyhear

You are all going to think I am strange but I have cancelled Mother's Day here for the second year running :)

My dd doesn't have very much money at all. I don't need anything - especially not for her to buy me flowers I won't see at all because I am at work all week(and no I couldn't take them to work ;) )

I think the whole thing is too commercial and I can't be bothered with it! so cancelled and no regrets :)

Bit of a let down last year but not a total surprise as both my kids have stopped talking to me for over a year - bit of a kick in the teeth as I bought them up single handedly for 10 years till they went off to Uni. Not expecting anything different this year either.

We make a fuss of our mums though - bit difficult as they are 100 miles apart!

I have always sent my mum a single white rose (called a peace rose) and a card for mothers day. Hubby is in charge of my 2 so I usually get an apology for mothers day :p I don't really mind, again mothers day doesn't mean much to me because it's just another day- I always get the best of my children every day.
