BT - renewal for phone and broadband advice please

Hi
I have obtained my Mac code this morning which was quite easy over the phone but now find that my account with BT doesn't end until April 6th, therefore will I have to phone again in about 2 weeks time to obtain it again. I forgot about the 30 day period.

They won't be able to issue another MAC until the one you have expires (30 days from issue). It is normal to lose a few days when moving ISP.

With O2 you can specify a future date - not sure if that can exceed the 30 days of the MAC though. They would use it to place an order with BT Openreach more or less when they get it I think so maybe you can specify the BT end date.

Thank you. So as I see it I won't be able to get the mac code from BT until the 30 days are up but could approach O2 and see if I could order broadband from them by telling them when my contract with BT expires. I appreciate there will be a break in being able to use broadband with the change of provider.
Going out now but will check in again in about 2 hours.

Don't talk to O2 go through Quidco to get cashback and see if the O2 site allows you to set April 6 as a start date. If not set the latest it will permit. All that means is that you will be paying 2 ISPs for a short time.

Don't forget to call BT again to tell them that you have actually moved otherwise they may keep charging you.

The downtime between BT and O2 is quite short - just long enough for a bloke with a screwdriver (and muddy boots unless he got it all off on somebodies carpet earlier) to swap the wires from the BT kit to O2s
