Thanks mummyandpaige. our children always ask for help with any messages/ reading messages so not a problem right now but will keep an eye on it. They used their christmas money to buy a years subscription so not going to ban it but as our children are younger this is more manageable for us.
I also think it is important to teach, in a positive way, about internet safety, at an appropriate level for their age as just banning sites can lead to older children finding ways round bans but in secrecy so support ofparent no longer available.
I wouldn't expect an 8-9 year old child to be able to resisit givin out her name or school to someone who seemed friendly so I would offer to spend time with her playing it on a regular basis if she wanted and then discuss anything that came up such as people asking for her details etc and how to respond so that she starts to learn and understand.
I think avoiding things can mean children don't learn the skills that they may need at a later date when parents may not be successful in being in control of what children do and don't access online.
bearing in mind that children in DHs school have found ways past the school controls to access things that aren't available at school such as youtube and facebook.
I really believe we need to support and equip our children for managing risk rather than try to avoid it. Either way we cannot completely avoid risk. sorry if this sounds like I don't care. I do. and I am grateful for the information as it helps me to think about how my children access and play the game in light of the information.

It says in my ebay I am awaiting payment
When I click on the item it says payment has been initiated and is being processed through paypal

Jo - I agree, DD1 is only 2, so not really an issue atm, just passing on info that I thought mums of older kids would find useful. Don't even know what the site is, but remembered you lot mentioning it the other night x

If someone has paid with an echeque, the email that paypal sends you will have echeque somewhere in the title and will give you an estimated date of clearing0
