dropshipping = ebay customer orders item from you, you order item from dropship company and they send order to ebay customer
importing goods = keep eye on import tax, customs charges, VAT, exchange rate, shoddy goods, fake goods etc0 -
Also with importing your have to make sure it complies with EU saftey rules. Will have safety number and EU stamp on it if it does. Very important if you are selling kids products.
VAT - you will either need to register or get yourself a temporary sudoturn number from HMRC. Otherwise your stuff will be held in customs while you get it sorted.
If your are going to be importing large qtys of stuff once you have experimented then it is best to register as an LTD, things will run smoother. Also in order to get things at a competitve price, you will need to order in the 1000's or dependant on supplier a few 100 may do it. I had a supplier that wanted a min order of 10,000 of each piece.
Its not a daunting as it sounds, you just need to make sure that you have the basics in place if you are going to be ordering big. Know how to get set up if you need a hand, did it for a few years before the stock room was turned into the kids room!
Oh, and if it is from China, ask to pay in Dollars, you will save about £80 per £1000 spent on the exchange rate alone.turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 -I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!0 -

Thank you to Cally6008 and MummyandPaige.
I think I may be picking your brain MummyandPaige as it is childrens goods from China. I have found a potential supplier who is willing to supply me in batches of 50's and 100's. So planning on starting out with a single order of 50 then working my way up. Forgot about safety rules and VAT.... I get giddy with ideas and forget bits and peices so may need you to kick my brain into gear if thats ok?DS1 arrived 22/02/11! 8lb3oz

tickle - thats fine, used to dabble and trying to get the info out of the various places was a !!!!!!, but got there in the end, happy to help/share info. Safety certs is fine, just ask your supplier and he/she will usually email you a copy, most places will have them, its just to cover your own back and prevent you getting sued. Just PM if/what you need help with and I shall try my best to help!
I always get carried away with excitement too, OH is the one who usually points things like that out to me!turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 -I'm a wiggly worm, I'm a wiggly worm, how do you do, I love you, I'm wiggly worm!0 -
Eek I'm so out of the loop!
Anyone want a cat? I'm sick of him destroying my furniture and TBH I tooi him in as a favour, can no longer afford the damage he does. My lovely cream leather sofa looks is now his scratching post.
Finally at my wits end with the OH. Sick of working for him to keep throwing money away. His brother has decided he owes him £100 and he decided to strike yesterday so we're down £60. Its actually at the point where I resent him, I don't know if I actually love him anymore.
And on a moneymaking note, Ive made zilch. Yay. Must work on it.0
