                    The Grocer
In The Grocer they say that bananas are the most wasted food.
Personally if mine are on the turn I stick them in the freezer until I have enough to make a lovely banana cake. I have found that bananas are going off a lot quicker these days.

What do you all do with yours?! Keep it clean, please!

            Hi purplevamp,
We can't eat enough bananas in this house. It's my family's favourite fruit. This thread will show you what other Old Stylers do with theirs. It's my family's favourite fruit. This thread will show you what other Old Stylers do with theirs.

I'll add your thread to it later to keep the ideas together.

Make a cakeI dont often have any banana's left after my 2 get to see them in the house but if they are turning brown they wont eat them so I always make a banana and walnut tea loaf from my Be-Ro book.
I have to slice it up after 2 days and put in the freezer as Im the only one who loves it Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time Getting myself sorted 1 day/1thing at a time and Love sewing and Love sewing

Eat it quicklyI very rarely get leftover bananas so it's not really a problem for me. I have made banana cake before but I wasn't terribly impressed with it - I think I've got chopped bananas in the freezer (scrounged from a work meeting so they didn't go to waste) so I'll have to try another recipe as I'm doing a freezer clear out at the moment (excuses, excuses! ). Back after a very long break!0 ). Back after a very long break!0

Just throw it awayWell sorry, but there had to be one It's a very, very rare occurrence but if ever there is a banana that's gone over, it goes in the compost bin. Neither DH nor I can stand anything more advanced than just ripe, don't like banana in recipes so not a lot else to do with it. Oh when I had some patent leather shoes I did once try the inside of the skin as a polish, wasn't impressed :rotfl: You never get a second chance to make a first impression.0 It's a very, very rare occurrence but if ever there is a banana that's gone over, it goes in the compost bin. *hides shyly*
I hate overripe bananas, especially when they go brown. OH will eat them, so they are very rarely wasted. I even think banana bread is foul as it tastes of - well - rotting brown bananas So I will also chuck them if they are past it, doesn't happen often, but I have no qualms about binning them So I will also chuck them if they are past it, doesn't happen often, but I have no qualms about binning them :staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 :staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

Make a smoothieI voted for smoothie, but it might be a smoothie or banana muffins! As we speak I have 3 in the fruit bowl that need attention. For some reason this week, the skins have split. Does anyone know why that happens?:oLess is more0

Something else ;o)On the rare occasions we get any bananas getting past their best, I turn them into banana ice cream.
However, Mr LW will eat bananas til they come out of his ears, so if I want to make ice cream, I usually have to allocate a couple of bananas for it specially. If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0

Make a cakeI turn mine into banana bread for my mum/my children.
I cannot stand the smell/taste/texture of banana's that are over-ripe, if they are slightly turing then I have them with some toffee muller light.
I have found with the last 3 or 4 batches that I have purchased from various shops that some are going from unripe to over-ripe without the good bit inbetween?2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.

I agree. I love cake and I love baking, but I've never tasted ( either my own or other people's) a banana cake that I've really fancied. They always seem quite dull and heavy to me. Prefer a mashed banana butty on wholemeal bread and butter!0
