e-on debt recovery policies.
Options
Hi.
After leaving my last house, I have changed suppliers. The final bill from e-on was sent to me (eventually) and it is as expected. The thing is, I was on a pre-payment meter paying off a debt at £3pw, as agreed with them owing to my circs. Now, I have spoken to their pre-payment recovery lunatics today and they have told me it is e-on policy to recover the debt fully within 10 months, otherwise it is sent off to a dca, irrespective of whether you are keeping up the scheduled repayments or not. Is this the fact or am I being taken for a ride? I thought if you made a repayment agreement and kept to it there would be no repercussions with dca's etc. So many occasions I have been lied to/misled that now I am sceptical of anything I hear!
Thanks for any advice

Why on earth would someone who you are no longer a customer with extend generous repayment terms indefinitely?
If you are not prepared to repay the debt then accept the hit on your credit record with good grace. You can, off course, start the rigmarole again with the DCA but why not just get them off your back instead of prolonging things?0 -
Hi 30664197,
I hope I can clarify things a bit for you.
You had a debt set on your meter to be collected at £3 per week, you have now moved house and changed suppliers therefore, E.ON are unable to carry on collecting the debt at £3 per week through the meter.
When you change supplier/move house, you receive a final bill (as you have) this will show the amount owing, (you say this is correct).
A closed account is different to an account that we still supply regarding debt collection, E.ON would normally expect a final bill to be paid in full, they would also offer a 3 month arrangement under some circumstances.
It sounds like you have been given further time to pay your balance of 10 months, has an arrangement been set up for this, ie; payment card.
Debts are passed to a DCA when the customer has failed to keep to an arrangement that has been agreed, you will receive the agreement in writing once this is set up on your account.

This is the case, it was suggested that I would receive a card to make payments at the post office as per the arrangement.Debts are passed to a DCA when the customer has failed to keep to an arrangement that has been agreed, you will receive the agreement in writing once this is set up on your account.
So if we agree a lower amount that I can afford and it takes longer than 10 months to repay, then I won't have the debt passed on to a DCA... As long as I make the agreed payments as per schedule.0 -

Hi,
I really doubt that they will give you any longer than 10 months, the only thing you can do is speak to the closed debt for pre-payment department (ask to be put through when you call) and ask if they will negotiate.
A debt is not normally passed to a DCA if an arrangement is in place and has not failed at all, but this is something to check again with them when you call.

Lovely. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll get back to e-on and make arrangements for a repayment plan then.
thanks again.0 -
Hi 30664197,
Yes, you must contact E.ON to arrange payment as without this a DCA will be passed your details.
