All of the items you mention can be carried safely in hand luggage0

Just be careful if you take nail scissors. We flew Ryanair early June and 1 of the party forgot she had put her maicure set in her luggage which was spotted on the scan, the case then had to be checked in........she was not happy!Panda xx

BTW Most Ryanair planes don't have a seat pocket in front of you, so you can't put a Nintendo in it if you carry it on in your hand.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0

This is not a Ryanair policy specifically.
The people that asked her to check in the bag at the scan are airport staff and not ryanair staff.
It has been a very well advertised policy since 9/11 that you cannot take anything sharp on a plane because of the possibility of someone using it in a hijack siutaion.
It is easy to overlook small nail clippers etc. but the policy is VERY well advertised and the reasons are obvious.she was not happy!
Then she is being very silly.
The policy is in place for safety reasons.
I can understand someone making a mistake with small items particularly if they are part of a set that you pick up, but the safety implications are blatantly obvious and it's ridiculous to complain.
If she wants to be on a plane that held up by a hijacker that's her choice, but while she flies with other innocent people then she will have to abide by the very obvious safety rules and stop being a silly girl.
BTW - it's very stupid to argue with customs/aiport staff.
They have rubber gloves, so don't go there !!0 -
I posted as a warning as they wanted to take hand luggage!not against Ryanair specifically, I know other airlines all operate the same policy, i also think she was annoyed at her own stupidity! I'd like to clarify she did not have any quarrel with the staff on the policy it was an oversight on her part. She accepted it with good grace, similar to my post, just a heads up.lisyloo wrote:This is not a Ryanair policy specifically.

I have done it myself by mistake.
I took a pair of nail clippers which had other attachements on.
One of them was a very nasty looking bottle opener type.
Totally by mistake.
But if they take it off you, you just have to accept it.
I wouldn't say, don't take any sharp objects because I do find I need to cut my toenails sometimes, but they should go in luggage and not hand luagge.0 -
yes but the OP is asking about hand luggage so no they wouldnt be able to take any sharp objects, in any case im sure you could buy nail clippers/scissors over there very cheaplyNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

yes security are very keen on sharp items etc, mind you after security you could buy from dixons at stansted enough electronic equpiment to make a bomb, with chemicals available at boots and perfume counters
also nutters can arm themselves with glass weapons from all over departures0
