some positive news on the mobile contract front....

we had cancelled DD's for the mobiles with them being so expensive, and when wife rang up to pay her contract over the phone told the CS lass that we had to cancel DD as we cant afford to keep paying such high charges when it was quater of the price on our old t-mobile contracts.... put on hold for a minute or two, lass came back on and said they'd knock 7.50 off her monthly contract cost, and add unlimited texts.... CS lass said looking at usage patterns she now shouldnt get a bill of more than 40 pound from next billing month.

Ahh contracts are so annoying Im trying to cut back on mine. Good luck with getting yours reduced also

I have just got rid of my contract with Orange - I'd had it for about three years so just phoned up and told them to end the contract. I was getting charged around £35 per month with bundled free calls & texts. I added up the calls I made and texts I sent and wasn't getting my monies worth, and made the change to Tesco mobile - it is a piggyback on the O2 network, and I went PAYG. If you stick a tenner of credit on there, they will triple it to £30 credit & you can do it all online too.

The phone I have uses Windows Mobile and I use a free app called "Phone Fusion" as the answer machine - there is no charge to use it and you can access the messages on t'interweb (as well as the phone), so you don't rack up costs of retrieving messages.

I'm over 35 so I can remember the world still turning before mobiles, and now just use it to receive calls - if I need to make them, I make sure they are quick and to the point. I'm getting more parsimonious the older I get.

Forgive my ignorance here, but with your phone contract, what would happen if you just cancelled your direct debit?? Would they chase you for the rest of the contracts payments, or is there an "admin charge" for cancellation?

hi, they would demand line rental for the remainder on the contract... so about 400 quid i'd guess.
ive cancelled direct debit and plan to pay by debit card when they send me a bill (or cut my phone off lol)

just sold 3 very old phones to fonebank... 26 quid, not bad when theyre all very old and 2 dont work!
