I read MSE most days and have been lurking for a while and just had to say that I never cease to be amazed by this whole Forum and how helpful the posters are on here.
Well done Fatlad for getting to grips with your debt!! :j
Both myself and my OH were spending a fortune by visiting the supermarket on the way home from work almost every day. We both knew it had to stop. We sat down a wrote out a list of our favourite meals for a month and then did an online shop for the whole month. We must have been spending £400+ a month a couple of years ago, we now spend about £160 a month and eat very well indeed. No ready meals and everything cooked from scratch. We also use "Mysupermarket.com" for the online shop as it offers substitute products that can save money. (Success..I got the OH to go from Heinz beans to Tesco own brand and she says they taste better than Heinz.. yey!! :j )
I have gone even further 'cos I just love NOT spending; as I love food & cooking I now make bread 3 times a week for our work sandwiches, I make my own sausages, bacon, ham, beefburgers, chorizo, salami, biscuits, cakes, beer and wine
Saved a packet doing this e.g. if I buy a £7 loin of pork, in a week I can turn it into the equivalent of £28 worth of smoked bacon which tastes soooo much better
Keep up the great start you have made - reading your posts today made me smile!0 -
good tips!
well after asking argos the freeze the account for 28 days, i recieved a letter from moorcroft advising they wanted the full balance in 7 days!
is this normal practise, argos recieving my letter then passing the debt onto moorcroft?
sent them a F&F settlement offer anyway, see how it goes.
still not heard back from anyone yet, although not getting the daily red letters.0 -

sent letter off to hsbc to reclaim mis-sold PPI.... and its a genuine case - they told the wife she had to have the PPI as she was under 21 and the loan would be refused otherwise.... so hopefully we will have a grand or so to throw at the debt.0

still no word on F&F setlements from the DCAs etc...
opening a new current account.... HSBC are bumping us left right and centre. In the past if there wasn't quite enough money to cover a DD they would pay it. Was a few quid short for paying the loan payment, so they returned it, and charged us 75 quid for the pleasure!... this also means we will lose out on the cashback deal we had with our hsbc loan which would see us getting back 400 pound roughly if we made payment every callendar month....... so having paid it on time for 3 years, we missed payment on the 2nd last month!!
makes me sick. so if we can get a refund on our PPI from this loan i'll be bloody pleased! the bank staff are so smug in the south shields branch too when they see that you've just been robbed of 75 pound on top of other charges! "heres a leaflet mr fatlad its got a budget planner in".... yeah cheers, you give me one every month.......0
