I understand this. I just think its very 'American' and over the top1984ReturnsForReal wrote: »I agree with you Steve.
It is more than likely a mistake.
Compensation is a civil matter.
A fine or prison is a criminal one.

Agreed.
But if the OP has dodgy bloke renting out above who really doesn't give a toss then maybe a little word maybe in order to make him sort his sh*te out.
But you are 100% right. Most likely it is a mistake & it has been forgotten about by accident. Probably switched everything off because they have a faulty isolator to their property. Not Again0 -
a criminal offence?

A message for all of you slagging off the OP. Go and turn your water off for 24 hours, see what it's like.
Go on.
Go on.
etc.
You won't because it's a ****ing nightmare.Pants0 -

Pointless post, and quite rude and unneccessarySo how much compensation do you think you're owed? You're perfectly at liberty to pursue it through the small claims process. Just don't expect the CAB or anyone else to finance it though.I would like to live in Theory, because everything works there0 -

To the OP so how was this resolved?
I think this happens a lot especially with dodgy 1970's house/flat conversion as if I turn the mains off in my flat then it cuts the water off to my neighbours!!
Oh and don't bother about compensation as it is just one of those things that happens, remember what goes around comes around.0 -
My unreserved apologies, I see exactly what you mean now.Not rude and not pointless. The OP's post says 'how much do you think I should ask for?' I'm asking the OP what she thinks she has suffered and what that translates into in cold hard cash.I would like to live in Theory, because everything works there0 -
