Okay, festival mad person here!
Coleslaw, meat and fish are a bad idea in this heat unless you've got a VERY reliable way of keeping them cool for a long period. You're risking food poisoning otherwise.
Fruit, crisps, bread, peanut butter, jam, cereal bars, raw carrots etc would be my staples, given that it's only a couple of days. But will you be able to bring any of them into the fields where the bands are? Lots of places won't let you bring your own food or drink into the arena but let you have it in the tents etc.
As for booze? Buy a box of wine, throw away the box and wrap the soft inside foil 'cushion' in your clothes.;) This works especially well if you've had a few drinks out of it first so it's nice and soft.
The 'cushion' can then be blown up again when it's empty by blowing into the tap bit and it makes a nice comfy place to lay your head when you're a bit worse for wear.
Ahhhh, happy days!May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -

Oh I love it. Definitely gonna do that. You can bring food and drink into the tents, and food into the arenas but not drink. loads of great ideas there, thanks everyone. and the best thing is that most of it is stuff i'd be buying anyway so not really having to buy much extra stuff. :j0 -
If it's the chocolate that got you, try taking a loaf of chocolate brioche with you, it lasts ages and if it gets warm it just means that chocolate chips become gooier (sp?) and yummier! It's good for breakfast, midnight snack, or anytime in between as far as I'm concerned!
Also homemade brownies and flapjacks should keep well.
Can't add anything to the above main meal ideas, I only know about chocolate, but don't forget to take loads of water with you!£2 Coin Savers Club £14 :j (joined 18/2/06)0 -
If your going to V we managed to do what Gingham Ribbon suggested with a box of wine - and if it's red it doesn't matter if it warms up a bit!
We tend to take a lot of fruit when we go - eating the softer stuff first e.g strawberries and saving the bananas, apples plus dried fruit (I love apricots) and nuts later on.
There is a temptation (and we've done it before) to buy lots of crisps and unhealthy snack food but after a day of it I always crave something healthier. Don't forget tinned stuff e.g. tuna, sardines in tom sauce (OH loves the stuff), sweetcorn, three bean salad, tinned fruit.
If you have a kettle that you can plug into your ciggie lighter in the car you could take tea, coffee and dried soups too.
Watch out for the ants though!0 -
Also, you don't need to avoid the stalls altogether. Just snacking on what you have during the day and then buying a filling meal in the evening will still save you a packet.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

That is really bad that you can't take a camping stove in. I've been to lots of festivals (wakestock last week being one of the best!) and you are always allowed to take cooking equipment.
I did see some of those self-heating meals in a local cheapy food shop last week for a quid each, they would be excellent if you could find some. I tend to live on bread and crisps when I am camping, supplemented with a bit of fruit it's not that bad for a couple of days.0 -
Is that electric picnic you're going to? I'm going as well but from scotland so can't pre-prepare any food. I'll probably end up buy loads of fruit on the morning i go and tinned ravioli and a tin opener - only eat ravioli when i'm camping so I'm used to the (lack of) taste!!! Plenty of beer and vodka as well to keep the cost down - really like that wine idea too.

One sneaky way of keeping food fresh on my awaydays I use is to buy mineral water, decant 10% ie. if its a 2 litre bottle remove 200ml and freeze it. Acts like a coolpack in the coolbag / box and you have cold mineral water too.0
