Fee for transfering from one EA to another.

Good Evening,

Im about to transfer from one EA to another.

The 2nd EA are charging me a small fee to sign up with them.

HIP is in place already.

Is a fee normal practice ?

Most are no sale no fee.......if you are paying a fee though I would hope you have negotiated a low commision rate to compensate this.
  • Sorry I dont think I made myself clear.

Im aware of the fee they charge when the house is sold.

This fee i talk about is a transfer fee as im leaving one EA and signing up with them.
I just wondered if this type of fee is normal or known practice.

How small is the fee in ££££'s?

I would of thought very rare for one to be charged?
  • It would be £58.00.

Never heard of a fee to sign up with an estate agent before. Normally they're desperate for business. I don't think this is normal

Doesn't seem a great deal but how on earth do they explain what it is for. I would of thought they would of been happy to get a new place on thier books?
  • Some kind of transfer waiver fee ?

Why would they charge a transfer fee? You aren't transferring anything between the EA's, you are effectively cancelling with one EA and starting up totally afresh with a new one. Think of it this way, the new EA should treat you as if you are just newly putting your property on the market - New brochure, photo's, ads in the paper, For Sale board, etc. If the new EA tries to charge then ask them exactly what the charge is for, don't accept "Its a transfer fee" ask them what in the transfer costs £58. If they don't come up with a very good answer then go elsewhere.

An upfront fee is standard practice in my part of Scotland-shire, so I don't regard it as unusual, whether the seller is transferring from another agent or coming to the second agent as their 'first' agent

Ah yes, showing my ignorance and presuming the OP is in England. My apologies.
