what else should i download, as computer re-formated

The other day the sockets in our house blew, and i have my computer and leads pludgged into a surge extension lead.
But daugher tried to start computer and it wouldn't it said that some file 32 was missing.

Instead of waiting for me to come home from work (although i wouldn't have known what to do) windows put a box up and she clicked yes fix the problem, and the computer has re-formated.

It has gone back to factory settings, and i have lost a few photos that i didn't back up.

The computer has come back on now, and i have downloaded.

IE8
Avast anti virus
C cleaner
malware bytes

Is there anything else that i should download, and put on for security.

Here is my malware bytes reading

Nice choice with Avast, and take a look at this thread also for people's recommendations ;)

If it gives the missing file message again in future it usually just means you've tried to turn it on with a USB stick or external hard drive still plugged in, removing the offending stick/drive and trying again is usually all it needs :)

    Update XP to SP3

Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI) is worth having(IMHO)

    Secunia is great.

For those who don't know it, it will scan all the software installed on your computer and tell you what patches you need to install. It's free.

    Secunia is great

I've just downloaded this, and used it, and it came back with 10 security threats, so i'm just going to spend a bit of time and fix those.

hopefully that will be everything done on my computer.

    thanks guys

I've just done that, and clicked on the solution and downloaded the solution to everything, i've run secunia again, and it now says i have 7 security threats.

Any ideas as to what i've done wrong

    thanks

Firefox browser is better than I.E.8 (get from filehippo.com)

    McAfee siteadvisor is handy

    Adobe Reader for pdf files

Quicktime / Java / Real Player / Shockwave flash likely to be needed

Openoffice if you don't have word

    You need a firewall

Nice alternative to Adobe Reader is Foxit Reader - light and nippy ;)
