  • Rip out all the confidential info ie, name, address, account number, transactions etc off each page & burn it.

    Recycle the rest.

Has anyone actually lost out or had their identity stolen from throwing away letters, bank statements etc?

I have my annual "cull" every Christmas/New Year. I shred the documents, put them in a plastic bag and then use this to light my next bonfire. "Dumpster Dive" that!

I really think people get carried away on this subject ! Or is this how the AA and Reader's digest get everyone's name and address :D

Why should I bother rummaging through your dustbin just to get one name and address when I can go to the Library and get everyone's from the Electoral Register ? ... and stay warm and dry into the bargain.

I shred personal information, anything with account numbers etc - my name and address is freely available to anyone who wishes to look it up - the "state" has seen to that.

I use a cross cut shredder then the shreddings go into the compost.

One of these will go even in the smallest garden.

Shiny paper doesn't do it on compost heaps methinks. Don't quote me on this but you have to take shiny magazine paper to somewhere else. It would be worth putting them back in the post for this reason and saying not known at this address.
