Half a tin tin of corned beef can be turned into a tasty dish.
Corned beef hash - soften some onion in a little oil, add peeled chopped potatoes and a LITTLE water. Cook till the potatoes are softened then add some corned beef and stir. Serve with vegetables or baked beans.
The rest of the tin can be used for sandiches or toasties.0 -
Rice cooked with stock cube, fry some chopped onion, peppers, very thin strips of carrot(if liked). add in 2 fillets of fish (pref smoked for flavour)and drained cooked rice. season to taste. as we are eating healthy at min i used brown rice and olive oil to fry. i cooked fish by steaming on a plate over rice while it was cooking. tasted very good. adapt veg to use up what you have.Teamwork means.......never having to take all the blame yourself0

When I was doing Weightwatchers, I used to make a stir fry with noodles, mushrooms, onions and peppers, and flavour with soy sauce and a sprinkle of curry powder. Really cheap to do, and very few calories. You're only young once, but you can be immature forever0

The Tesco value red kidneybeans are a great protein base for tasty meals. For example, aubergine and red bean stew (fry aubergine cubes until cooked then add kidney beans. serve with rice and yogurt). Bean salad (marinate in vinigrette, add any cooked veg e.g. green beans, brocoli, carrots and some finely chopped onion or shallot, maybe some parsley or mixed herbs)and srve with baked potatoes, vegetable stew (fried onion, pepper, carrot, maybe celery, add tinned tomatoes simmer 10 minutes then add kidney beans. Seve with rice. Add some chilli if you like, and serve with yogurt. hard boiled eggs go well with this, as do naan bread or tortilla chips. They're great in wraps with salad stuff, boiled egg etc.0

try making your own pizza and chips, I make 2 big ones, can freeze one for another time-loads of cook books have base recipes then ttop with drained tin tomatoes, grated cheese and whatever else you have-bits of ham, fried mushrooms, or peppers. Use potatoes to make your own cheap chips. Or roast chicken one night then can use left overs for days-eg chicken and mushroom and tin sweetcorn soup or stirfry, sandwiches for work etc0

Beans and grains, beans and grains, beans and grains!
Last night (and tonight) we had a great soup made with leeks, carrots, potatoes, turnip and puy lentils and chicken stock, liquidised, then added some pearl barley "I had cooked earlier". The first night we had it for tea with toast, then the greedy ones also had sausages and chips. Tonight we had leftovers with cheese on toast (and cold sausages for the young sausage fanatic).Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000
