CIFAS Registered - now no credit cards approved at all

The CIFAS marker itself won't prevent you getting credit approved. I had a fraudulent card set up in my maiden name but at mother's address - neither of which were current for 20+ years. Spoke to the storecard issuer - had a CIFAS type 2 added to both mine & mother's details - victim of fraud name and/or address.
This all happened in Nov '09. I applied online for a Virgin 0% Bal transfer card last month. At the decision point I got the 'we need more information, we'll be in touch' message which I had expected. 2 days later I had a very pleasant call from MBNA (Virgin) in Chester just to confirm that it was me who had made the application. I was pleased to see that the CIFAS marker was acted upon - would rather have a slight delay than more hassle with thieving scumbags.
I worked in IT on card New Business systems for nearly 20 years and my experience above is how the system is supposed to work.
I was also not charged for putting the marker on my details as some of the previous posts seem to imply.
Have written in more detail on the VERY fraudulent cards thread yesterday.0 -

Although there are checks, I didn't expect them to be so stringent.
Would you prefer they just let anyone apply for credit in your name without making further checks? You'd soon complain and ask why they didn't check more thoroughly if they did! You can't have your cake & eat it. You either wanted extra protection against fraud or you didn't.As stated, I am not prepared to send documents (for which they will not accept copies) through the postal system, for such things as passports or driving licences. They aren't going to pay me if such documents go missing and then where am I left? Without an official drivers license for a start until they're finished. And thats only for starters, cos it may not ever even come back to me. Call me cynical but I think this is unacceptable. It would seem that a more streamlined approach is needed to lenders using the CIFAS system, but then there are bound to be rules and regulations they must abide by and maybe they aren't?
Back to my original point - you can't have your cake & eat it. If you are going to register to make it more difficult for other people to make fraudulent applications in your name then you can't really complain when lenders ask you to send them documentation like passports & driving licenses to prove you really are who you say you are. Besides, you've proven that CIFAS doesn't hinder you from getting credit because you started off saying it was preventing you from getting credit, then you admitted that the lender didn't refuse you credit, they just wanted you to send them proof of ID & you refused to comply. I get the feeling that you are hindering yourself with all the obstacles & 'what if's' you put in the way more than CIFAS is hindering you.0 -

Spent a long time reading up on threads regarding CIFAS, N Hunter and some other company... if you read up on those Mr. Militant really echoes many of my own thoughts and I'm very glad for his efforts0
