Congratulations on passing your test. Maybe a second hand car for £1000 will be better.

I didn't realise the pass plus is a waste of money.

Thanks, it was hard work and that was my 5th time lol. It is really hard passing in south London lol. I was unlucky as I knew nothing about driving and had no one to help me so had to save and pay for lessons, then had no money and save again ect. My previous instructor was very smart and just before my test, would tell me to do manouvers a different way but I didn't clock on at first.

Cars for £1000 are also old cars and i think that makes your insurance a bit higher. I have looked on autotrader, ebay and gumtree. I don't think I would risk buying from a private seller as I know nothing about cars and I am scared I will be conned. Although I know most private sellers are not dodgy, I just know my luck. Have looked at local car dealers but the prices are quite high too and there is no one I know that can help me as no one drives, so am kind of stuck. So if anyone out there can help me, say if i see a car advertised at a car dealer, would be great to get your advice.

Good luck, you will pass. Hope you find a car soon.
  • Hi,

Searched the forum but I could not find an answer to my question so I will ask here as it is somehow related: I have a provisional driving licence, never drove in my life (I know how to get into a car and I know how to open the car window) and I would like to take driving lessons. My question is: do I need an insurance as an apprentice driver? If I want to learn to drive in a brave friend's car and the friend is insured and all, do I still need to have an insurance?
This matter is in complete darkness for me so thanks for your advice. :)

You would need to ask whoever's car you were driving in to contact their insurance company and add you to the policy for which there is bound to be an additional cost. Also older cars do not cost more to insure, each car is given a grouping by the insurance company when it is manufactured and that group does not change. (I used to work in insurance)

I said I only have about 10 years of driving left because once my kids have all left home I won't be able to afford a car.

    That's an interesting comment.

I think you'll find giving up your car much harder than never having had one.
