No buying toiletries in March challenge!

  • Hi I'm new to MSE but quite fascinated by the idea of a month without buying toiletries. It's definitely my addiction and I need to get ahold of it. I think I'm a bit late for the month of March so will hold out for an April challenge. Like others have said Boot's is a minefield of temptation! It doesn't help that in my city to go through Boots is a shortcut to the walking street. Part of my problem also is having 4 teen daughters, if I see something I know they need/use on offer I tend to pick it up, but I don't think they really appreciate it anymore, or realise how much its costing me - presently they are richer than I am!

I'm also considering a 'Avoid Food Out' challenge. Spend quite a bit making dashes into town and then becoming famished and picking up something to eat. From now on I must plan ahead and take it with me from home.
No buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!

You can always join in now...as a practice fr April! The benefit in joining now is that its much closer to the end of the month, so you'll be more likely to ake it, and feel the buzz of success....inspiring you for next month.

Had to throw out a warming mask last night as it had hardened in the tube. Not sure if it's because I've had it a few years or it just didn't like it under the bathroom sink :rotfl:

At least that's one less to worry about :j

Who's going to fess up to shandyclover that we've all been at this since Christmas time and we're all hoping on and off the wagon pretty regularly?
In fact, I think it's only been the worry of going to hell for breaking my lenten promise that's stopped me buying toiletries or painting my nails so far! Easter Saturday will see me in Boots I reckon (don't worry not buying masses but want to try their eye waxing strips if they still have them for 99p!) and I have some voupons for 250 pts off NO7 skincare so will get a couple more gifts ready for the present buying bonanza!

Hmm, well, tonight I wanted to use a face mask but I can't find them....where can they be? I do have one sk:n sample mask, but ''I'm saving it'' the excuse of all hoarders:o:o

I did however find some very old dr. brandt ''micro dermabrasion in a jar''. its gone a bit yellow..I guess it was white/creamy originally. But I'll have a go. I remember not being overly keen on it.

edit: it was very dry. So I loosened it with some Boots P & Pserum, which I hate..I think I'm the only one who hates this stuff...anyway, it did the trick. I haven't used anything scrubby on my face for ages, and it made a nice change: skin looks very polished, in fact, perhaps a litle too polished...almost...reflective!

    Hi all

Finished of one of my trial P&P serums this morning so only another 12 of the 5ml size to go - good news was that it took less than a week to use up so that should have them all used up by the end of June and then I can move up to the 7ml samples:D

Hve been really good and haven't bought anything since I bought the necessary deoderants and toothpastes on Friday. Not going near the shops this week as I have a really busy week and no need to go shopping (tesco did their delivery last night) so that should be til the end of March.

Looking forward to the new thread starting in April. Loving all the product reviews and have a wee list going which has the recommendations that I fancy trying once by stash has diminished.

Nearly the end of March and I have bought nothing!!!:beer:
I don't seem to have used that much up really
    a hand cream
    a shampoo
    a deodrant
3 bubble baths (one of which i decanted into handwash bottles)
had to throw a mascara due to eye infection but it was nearly gone

Sorry haven't kept up with the chat:o Just posting here is keeping me on the straight and narrow:rotfl:
Now does it count if I buy something from Boots but use gift vouchers that I earn for doing product trials?

Yes it does. Put it down carefully, raise your hands in the air, turn around and STEP AWAY FROM THE SMELLIES LADY!
