Not really got any helpful advice - just wishing good luck.

Out of interest - there seems to be some debate as to whether the fact that the shoes have rubber soles caused the damage..... but it's the leather uppers that have split/cracked. As far as I can tell the wooden soles have held up fine in the bad weather and grit, surely the grit shouldn't cause leather to crack, otherwise almost all of us would be in trouble come winter! :-)

yes it's the leather upper that have cracked. Whilst the soles have worn down more than rubber ones there is no damage to the soles.

    As per equalizers post above.

the best argument to adopt is that the shoes are not of SQ as they are not durable having lasted only 4 wears.

the traders defence will be the same imo.

you would need an independent report in writing to support your argument - the cobblers word will not suffice. You will be liable for the cost of this.

Sorry that was me, who made one slightly tongue-in-cheek comment which some people obviously took as serious advice. Having a sense of humour myself I wrongly assumed everyone would have one. My apologies. I now realise that this board is no place for smart alec comments or differing opinions.

at least you will know for future.

i thought the OP had requested serious advice.

im puzzled as to why you continued trying to justify it when you now claim that you were joking though?

differing opinions are fine in my book - its toolbag advice that gets to me! haha

I'll get a picture of damage put up of course.

Just out of interest OP, did you use a leather protector before you wore the shoes because if you did, you could add that information to your letter as well.

    thanks for your response Ivory.

I didn't - for once in my life the sales staff didn't bug me to buy one either at the desk -If i'm honest I don't think I would have bought one if they did.

    how wonderful is hindsight?
