Plastic Tape Door Screens - Old Style- flies driving me nuts !!

My kitchen gets full of flies everytime I leave the door open in this weather, it's driving me nuts !!! Does anyone know where I can buy one of those old style door screens that everyone had when I was kid... the ones with lots of different coloured plastic tapes hanging down. I would love to be able to order one online. Any ideas anyone????

I bought two lengths of plain net curtain, and added weight to the bottom. I've hung them on the outside of the door (don't worry about the rain - they dry in no time), with the split in the centre - the dog can come and go as he pleases as well as everyone else. It works brilliantly well, no flies/bugs get through, and as I live by a river there are billions. I'm now on my 4th summer of use and I wouldn't change them for anything - they work 100% better than the bead curtains.

This is a good idea Researcher - What do you weigh them down with? I invested in some bamboo curtains from Glynn Webb and I keep trapping them in the door when I close it :o I need to renew them soon as I keep losing strips of them!

I know the things you mean, but not sure what exactly they call themselves! I have had the bamboo & wooden bead ones, and the plastic strips (tasteful blue & white!!!) on our back door in the past - before we put up a nice posh conservatory.
The only places I have found them is those shops that I call "plastic bucket shops". You know, the sort that stand loads of plastic buckets and things outside & are full of cheap tatty junk inside!

Over the last few years I've tried all sorts of curtains. The coloured plastic ones you get from the pound shop try to strangle you every time you go through, especially if it's hot. The bamboo ones get trapped in the door as 1sttimer says and the back step is littered with bits of them. In the end I did the same as researcher and used two bits of net I picked up at a carboot threaded onto a garden cane resting on two hooks on the outside door frame. They're brilliant.

I bought some stuff from Dunelm, its like little ball bearings on a thread, and I just tacked it on to the hem of the curtains. It was very cheap and goes through the washing machine no problem.

I am getting myself these, (1 door pack should cover 2 doors, but, don't know for sure yet).

we tried the plastic and bamboo ones and werent that great, so dh made a light frame and stretched net over and fitted it to the back door with a hinge and used a magnet catch to close it, could leave main door open without flies getting in

Any pet store that sells fish, or more correctly, plants for fish. They sell packs of soft "lead" bit's that you can crimp by hand onto the bottom of nets. I use them on mine.
