I need to make some too as the plastic one we have is hopeless and OH keeps getting tangled up in it and it keeps getting wrapped around the new wire fence on top of our wall :rolleyes:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0

Bought actual insect screens in Poundland/99p shop (never can remember which one!) - weighted mesh with velcro tape to stick on door/window frame. Work very well - better than the beaded/tape curtains, because gaps much smaller.0

Excellent, thank everyone, not bothered if they look cheap and tacky as long as it keeps the flies off my cakes..
thanks again0 -

I made one of these this weekend, chose an electric blue as husband tells me that this colour discourages flies and I seem to remember seeing lots of hosues painted a bright blue colour in India for the same reason.Budget for Jan/Feb £240 per 4 weeks

I've hung them on the outside of the door (don't worry about the rain - they dry in no time), with the split in the centre - the dog can come and go as he pleases as well as everyone else. It works brilliantly well, no flies/bugs get through, and as I live by a river there are billions. I'm now on my 4th summer of use and I wouldn't change them for anything - they work 100% better than the bead curtains.
This is a great idea, what did you use to hang the net? OH isnt very good at DIY, so hope its something easy :rotfl:

To begin with I used a garden cane I had, but the next year I bought a length of curtain wire, it's white and stretches a little, you thread it through the curtains and then connect a hook at the end of the wire to an eye. It was very easy and it's very easy to put up and down.
An other advantage is that you can see out through the open door, but others can't see in.0 -
