Charged for line rental for period of my PAC Code
Options
Earlier this year I requested my PAC code to transfer my mobile number from 3 to T-Mobile. About 2 months afterwards I received an outstanding bill from 3, for line rental for a month. I have paid this because 3 threatened to put a note on my credit file.
3 say that the bill is because there is 30 days notice from giving me my PAC to the contract finishing, so I am eligible to pay line rental for this period.
When I requested my PAC I was never told about a notice period, and 3 have admitted this.
I want to get my money back from 3 for the line rental that I've paid!
Has anyone else had similar thing happen to them when they requested a PAC? What happened to you?

Even if you use the pac inside 30 days, you still have to give a full 30 days notice. So if you get your pac and move after 4 days you'll still get billed for a further 26 days.
Its a standard contract term.0 -
Thanks for the info. I thought they'd screwed me. They've said they are sorry they didn't inform me of this over the phone, but for £11 I don't think I can be bothered arguing the toss.
The most amusing part was when I told their operator I was moving to T-Mobile and said it was down to 3's poor customer service, the operator said "but T-Mobile are just as bad".0 -
yes you do have to give 30 days notice on your contract irrespective of PAC
Yes I'm afraid that T mobile cust service is as bad or worse than 3 - but at least they do have a better netwoirkTANSTAAFL !0 -
My bills were paid a month in advance + paid again at the end of contract, so once I got my PAC code i used it part way through the 30 days and got a refund of £20 on a £45 a month contract.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies0 -

Now that's moneysaving!0 -
this wasn't always the way. three, vodafone, orange and t-mobile (in my experience - never used o2 for a contract) used to only charge for the period you were actually connected (i.e. you could request a PAC, use it immediately, and only pay for 7ish days of the notice period).
i'm guessing they've tightened this up due to 30 day notice sim-only contracts, which through this loophole (and given the quicker PAC turnaround times these days) you would be able to effectively cancel almost instantly.0
