Return item, no packaging question

Got my daughter a leapfrog tag reader toy in october from argos. It's stopped working, tryed all the normal.... new batteries.

Have the receipt, but don't think I've still got the box or any of the packaging for it, will they still accept it back for an exchange with out it ?

You wont need packaging if its faulty, whether you'll get an exchange or a repair is debateble.
  • Great, will take it back when I get a chance, Not really bothered if they want to repair it instead of exchange as long as it's works again ;)
  • Ive found argos are normally great on stuff like that, if its within 6 months you can exchange or refund. It does say after 6 months repair, but I had a 7 month old water cooler (broken) , the guy in the store just replaced it with a new one (I didnt have box etc) no questions asked.

Wow! Someone with a good word for Argos...careful, you will be accused of working for them! (see plum climbing frame thread.)
  • They will probably swap the product and keep the new packaging. Problem solved!

  • Yeah they'll replace it with a receipt - I took an Xmas present back that was my son's but they wouldn't replace because I had no receipt so they argued it could've been from Woolworths (who were closing down at the time!) Cue husband raking round in the recycle bin for the box with the Argos stock number sticker on it to prove it was from them! They replaced it on seeing just the box for us so you'll be fine.

Stop it! You must all work for Argos!
  • Alternatively, buy another one, switch it and then return the old one, in the new packaging. Simples!

No. Many people think this works but it's very easy to tell a recently purchased faulty item from a faulty item purchased several months ago.

You don't need the box, but take back everything you got with the item (accessories in the box), and your receipt or proof of purchase.

Toys can't be repaired (unless it's a really expensive one) and you should be able to get a replacement for what you return - e.g. if the box came with the reader, power cable, bag etc and you only take the reader to store, they'll give you a new reader but put the faulty one with the accessories from the new one and send it back to our damages warehouse.

If it's after 30 days stores send the item off for repair. Argos only usually exchange after 30 days if there is no repair facility. Usually if an item costs less than £40 it won't have a repair facility, but this is not the case for everything.

And aye, I do work for Argoose :D

Finally got round to trying to return it today, however they said my only option is an exchange, which I was fine with... however they don't have any in stock in any stores near me and said it was out of stock online. So my ONLY option was to take an argos giftcard. Told them I would hold off till they get them in stock.

Checked online to set up email back in stock when i got home and the item is "internet only" now and costs more if i ordered it online I can't use there giftcard and it would cost me a tenner more than what I paided.

Can I refuse to take the Giftcard if they can't give it to me at orginal price and ask for cash (my orginal payment methord) to go else where ?
