Sky Cancelled sub question relating to box am left with

Hi,

Cancelled Sky HD down due to moving home soon, can I pass the HD box/dish which I have been told is mine by Sky (12 months over contract) onto family member who has basic sky world contract and very old box (non Sky + variant)?

I still can get free to air channels on the HD box now with my old card still in it, but if I pass the box over can my family member use their existing card in the box to use their paid for services but hopefully get Sky+ as a result or is it all tied in ie. card only relevant to serial number of box?

Thanks in advance.

No you need to subscribe to HD to get it, just having the box and another card is not sufficient. The cards have to be paired to the boxes and their account will not have HD authorised.
At least I think that's how it works!

They would need to get Sky to pair the card with the sky+ box, although they wouldn't be able to use it's + features unless they paid extra, and potentially had a second cable/LNB change to allow it to use both tuners.

Basically, it would just act as a normal Sky box, unless the extra was paid.

Yes you can do that. Has your relative already got a dual LNB? If not would they be able to change over the LNB from your dish and run an extra cable?

Each box is tied into one viewing card so your relative will need to phone up Sky to get their own card paired with your box. He/she should also ask for the Sky+ services to be activated which is perfectly possible without the HD sub. Just get him/her to say you have just bought a 2nd hand Sky+ box and want the features activated - if they do mention HD because of the serial number of the box just say you don't have an HD TV yet so don't need the HD pack.

There will be no extra charge as Sky+ is free with any subscription to Sky.

BBC HD and ITV HD will be available even without the HD sub.
