Had to do a system recovery on the laptop yesterday (HP Notebook - Vista) and have now got some queries.:)
It said to update security files from Microsoft & HP afterwards.
Have done the HP ones but one update failed and got an error code of: 80070026 and not sure what to do? (Did try googling first)
Do we still have to update microsoft? Or will this have been done through the HP updates? And if so, do we just go to microsoft.com?
Second query regards anti-virus. Basically we had norton 360 on it which had just expired (we didn't want to renew).
We thought the system recovery might get rid of it, as it was put on afterwards but it appears a 30 day free trial is pre-installed on the laptop. Naturally we said No to turn on Norton and uninstalled it. Will this have been enough to remove it all in this instance?
Also we have downloaded the free version of Avast in its place but when going to the pc health & security section of the HP total care advisor, it says that the antivirus is 'at risk' and says 'we did not find a anti virus software installed on your system'. (When I switched the laptop on today, Avast came on straight away to inform me that it had installed the latest update so I assume it is on okay).
Sorry for all the questions, hope you can help, thanks:)

That message (erroneous) sometimes appears when the machine detects multiple anti-virus installs; clearly, it's still detecting Norton. Follow debitcard's advice and all should be OK - nice choice with Avast0 -

Hi dcm, I've downloaded the norton removal tool and followed the instructions. I've also gone to windows update. Thanks0 -

Hi busenbust, I've followed dcm's good advice but the message still appears ??? (I've switched off fully to see if that made any difference).
As to the AVAST - it was between that and MSE after reading the threads on here. (I might not be able to take in all the information but I DO listen!:)).
Incidentally my son said that when he was looking to download it, the free version said it was no good for ordering things online. Is that correct? (I was busy making tea, so didn't get to look myself)

Not sure why that message is still showing - could it be reporting as inaccurate (possible conflict with HP security center?); what does Windows Security Center report;
Who am I to argue with Avast (and their paid-for products;) )...would not bother me personally....anyone else?
Adherence to ordering only on reputable https websites etc.0 -

Windows security centre shows that Avast and Windows Defender are both on and running fine.
I do check for https and the padlock when ordering online, just wondered why it had mentioned it. Thanks:)0 -
