Reinstate Sky or new subscription?

Hi, sorry, it's another Sky thread!

We cancelled our Sky subscription in the Autumn as we only want it for Eurosport and MotorsTV for their motorsport coverage.

We want to restart Sky again but can't work out the best way to do this.

We'd quite like another Skybox but we aren't bothered by HD and we don't want to pay for HD.

The last contract was in OH's name, is it better for him to ring them and restart Sky - are they likely to give him a good deal on the monthly cost? OR is it better if I take a new subscription in my name (different name, different bank account).

The new customer minimum seems to be £18 per month whereas before we cancelled I think we were down to £16 - is there any chance of them reducing the monthly cost for a new subscriber, I don't need to free broadband cover they are offering within that price...

Any thoughts and advice gratefully received.

They only offer the HD Sky+ box, but you aren't forced to take an HD sub, if you don't take the sub though you have to pay more for your installation though.

  • The biggest thing to think about i guess is if you want another 12 month contract or not if you ring em up and ask for it to be put back on month by month there is no contract so no worries if you want or need to cancel within the next 12 months ..... just a thought.

bl00dy jehovas good idea on the dog answering the door wonder what they will think of my 9 stone akita

That is a really good point, it hadn't occurred to me that OH could reinstate on a monthly basis and then we can chose to can it again next autumn if our finances are still as they are.

We don't *need* a new box and we can probably pick up another one off ebay or something similar anyway.

    Thanks very much.

Nearly every Sunday I get the usual 'god squad' leaflets falling thru my letterbox despite a sign on my door saying 'No junk mail!'....
Dont get me wrong,I believe in a god however If I want to worship a god,I'll go to church,I dont want them calling on me on my days off!
  • Just to update this. Hubby rang Sky and has reinstated a rolling month by month contract at £14 (and a bit) per month, they've deducted 20% off the cheapest monthly sub. Thanks for the suggestion guys.
